Sold my BMW K1100LT tonight. Feel a bit sad as it is a great bike and I would have liked to keep it, but I guess I can't keep them all, and I'm happy to have some money back in the bank and some room in my garage to park my F2. The new owner is riding it back to Adelaide (500 miles) tomorrow, I hope he has a good ride! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

I actually touched the old girl yesterday, the bike that is. Dropped the bowl off #1 carb & found exactly what I was expecting from sitting with stale fuel for 4+ years. Got onto a mate in the trade to ask if I could borrow his blasting cabinet (I was going to use soda) but he suggested another option.
There's a diesel w/shop across the road from his that has a tub in which they resurrect aluminium  diesel pump bits.
I'm going to give it a try & will post the results after it's done. I'll have to find out what solution is in the tub if it's successful to share it here.

I read on here 'bout using vinegar in fuel tank restos, so I filled the bowl with it & let it sit o/night. Tipped it out & gave it a blast with aerosol carby cleaner. Presto, brand new. Me think it mazing  :o

Decided it was crazy to even consider a $450 combined speedo/tach when I (think I) could mangle 3 trying to make one for that price.

Not too much, fitted the clutch cover. The old screws were toast so had to find correct sizes and polish them up a bit.

I decided to scrap the old seat that I started making and build a new one......

Old seat mockup :

I wasnt happy with how the seat was turning out on that one... it was starting to be too flat and just didnt really flow with the looks of the bike.

The new seat mockup:

I am much more happy with this one.... It is a little too high in the back so I will be taking about 1/4 inch off the top and re-curving the rest of the seat....

Here is my build thread if anyone is interested.   http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=44096.0

Going here in a few minutes to pick up the last of the stuff from powdercoat, brake calipers, fender mount, chain guard, probably won't actually get any work done till this weekend though.

Painted the letters on the left hand switch on the bars with hobby shop paint find. It looks like a good match. The one on the right in the picture is a NOS switch, never been used, so the orange colour is correct.

Got the oil tank offsets made so that the tank can clear down in to the bottery box (I cut off  the lower breather tube and welded it up)
Also got the seat mounted and a Pingel fuel valve came today
almost time to fire this baby up

Jim

Looks good Jimbo, why did you need to space the oil tank out again mate? Cheers, Terry. ;D
Hey Terry
I had to lower the battery box to clear the back side of the tank
so then the lower vent on the oil tank, now hit so that got cut off and welded shut.
Then the top part of the oil tank now hit the fuel tank, so I made some spacers to make
sure everything cleared and so far it seems to fit nicely. I don't have everything bolted up tight but
I think its going to work fine
How are your projects going and its good to hear from you again

I bought a front end off eBay for $50  ;D for my 750 cafe project and bummed a couple of wheels from a friend for free  ;). Now all I need are the front brake calipers and lines and an exhaust system, then I will be ready to start. Have taken the sprocket cover off my CB550 and bought a new shifter shaft seal. As soon as the weather lets up a bit I will have that baby fixed  :D :D. I really hate winter  :'( :'( :'(.....

The tear down for the rebuild continues on the magna deluxe. Just pulled the carbs to do a shim and rejet on them. Long way to go but hope to have it ridable by Apr or May at latest.

Rolled the engine over and put the shift linkage and case bolts back on it. Continued the re-assembly of my brothers K7. I had to take the shift cover off my 70 to be sure we got it right. it was leaking anyway. Moved all the parts bikes to get all my old 383 chevy race parts on the table, possible buyer.

When you need brake line, contact member Pampadori, his shop makes these, I've been very happy with the one I got from him.

Today, for my 550, I ordered tires, tubes, brake shoes, chain, sprockets, fork seals and an air filter.  I've been working on this list and saving for awhile, now by spring the 550 should be rarin' to go!
