What did I do to my bike today? Got everything out I have been collecting, polishing, reworking and set most of it on the bench. Bike show in 2 weeks and I got to make sure it runs and looks pretty...'cause "a bike that don't run is not real"...and "a bike that does not race is not...a racebike!"

Hey there's some nice "unobtainium" parts there Mark, I love those brake discs, and are they Ceriani forks I see there? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Wheels are the old Kimtab magnesium from RC Engineering. discs are  steel and I don't know where they came from. They were on wheels when I got them. I think, if I can remember way back then...there was a dirt bike that used them. Rokon? ATK? ???   Also forks are nice, but not what I would like, Ceriani but these are Betor from Spain. I am a dealer now for Joker Machine so the gas petcock, tappet covers, clutch cover, point cover and starter cover are all from them. Carved from the solid (billet) they are very nice but expensive. We are going to rake out front end, run with rear struts... so it will be a street/strip Hotrod. "long and low" just like the in the old days.

Might even run it with flat black tank and seat.

thanks for post.

pulled the gas tank off, doing the cleaning for putting por-15 in. i didnt think this tank would need it but was i ever wrong. the screen in the petcock and the needle/seat assemblies were all crapped up with brownish sludge.

Tried and failed to get a good spray finish on the tank, oh well, resand and spray another day. I moved on to modifying the seat pan so it will sit lower on the frame, it is some aftermarket mild king queen setup that doesn't matchup with any mounts and the backend sticks way up and out like it's flapping in the wind. I have removed the frame hardware and if I use a pipe on the pan to form it to the frame tubes, I think it will work ok. I am thinking that some type of rubberized spring clamps will hold it to the frame pretty good.

man, everyone restoring/painting their bikes makes mine look old and bad..haha.  well today i actually rode mine for a mile around the block. first nice day and i got outta work and after the carbs have been cleaned, oil changed, i rode it around for a bit (without a seat) i know im a moron but i never was outta third gear. ran kinda rough, would rev very high at a stop in  first (from idle 1200 rpm to about 3000 rpm. i know i need to tune the engine and sync the carbs, so im hoping thats my problem. but it was nice to actually sit on it and go 30 mph instead of staring at it in my garage  :)

Well, the tear-down continues...almost down the the frame/engine/swingarm. Taking a little longer cause everything is getting cleaned prior to the reassembly. Still waiting for some parts and the new ignition system controller. I'm really being anal about cleaning everything and removing all dirt/grease/rust/etc. I will scrub it down with kerosene and power wash it after. Started to polish the lower fork casings and then the wheels. Plan to take them to a mirror finish on the aluminum. Hope to have it all back together and running by the end of April at the latest. Besides the 750K4, this is one of the best bikes I have ever ridden or owned. Just bought a tour tank so that I can ride twice as long without stopping for fuel. That is probably the only downside of this bike (same as the VMAX) is it has a small fuel tank that only gives you about 120 miles prior to the reserve and that is only good for 35-40 miles at best.

It was the best of days, it was the worst of days. I bought a shiny new TIG welder on EBay last Thursday and as it had to come from the other side of town, I paid the extra 30 bucks to get it delivered. It was a long weekend, but delivery was scheduled today, so I took the day off, as the wife had a medical appointment to go to, and of course someone had to be home to sign for the box. By lunchtime it hadn't arrived, so I rang the courier company, but they couldn't tell me if it was being delivered today? Great. After another 4 or 5 calls, we agreed that I could go collect it from their depot at 5.30pm. So much for my 30 bucks delivery fee............

Ironically, the RC cylinder block I bought from Michrobi in the US on the same day, was delivered at 4pm? How is it that in the same time that USPS/Australia Post can get an item to me from halfway around the planet, TNT couriers here in Melbourne can't get a friggin' box sent from one side of the city to the other? Useless turds!

Good news of course is that I am now the proud owner of another RC cylinder block, woohoo! Interestingly, it's a much better casting than the other one, much sharper edges and the more I look at it, the more I think the first one is a "fake" block, probably cast from an original, which probably also explains why it cracked between the cylinders, dodgy material.

And finally, I got a call back from a guy accepting my offer to buy his (wrecked but repairable) CB750 and all his spares, his bike was beautiful before he threw it down the road, but anyway, it will be good again, and 500 bucks less than he wanted, plus he's agreed to throw in all his spares. Another 850 mile drive next Saturday, but what the hey, I like driving. Here's some gratutuitous pics, to maintain your interest...............  ;D

Went for a short ride! It was a perfect day, sunny and 79 degrees.

This was the first ride since putting on the Dyna ignition and some new/old carbs. Has a slight hesitation at about 4000, but overall running good.

G'Day Fred, yeah, it's a ripper, isn't it? I had one on my F1 in 1978 and it took me years to find another one of these, and then I found another one in the same week, same as those RC blocks! I might have to get some finned alternator covers cast too? Cheers, Terry. ;D

This time it's what I didn't I do... I saw a new/unused wire loom on ebay for the CL350 twin K0. I watched it and at 15 min left, it was at $55. I came back when it was closing and it ended up going for over $180!  :o
Btw, you can still get them from Honda for around $75. WTF are people thinking?  ???  ::)

I really like the looks of that Terry. Pfft. and here I am just trying to clean the 40 years of crud out of my fins and everywhere else from the POs.

No hands on work on it for a while, I think. Still collecting parts as we can afford it. No overtime at work means no parts. I never though I'd look forward to overtime. I may have to find a side gig. Any of you guys need a personal x-ray tech?  :D

A very bad day indeed, I was in a hurry (the start of all great catastrophes) trying to get my trash cans out (which now reside in the shop because my dogs think it's cool to drag trash all over the yard), clipped my crash cart with one lost my balance and skipped the one over my shoulder off the gas tank. :(  Didn't crack or chip the paint (K2 clear, holding up quite well) but put a nice dent in the tank!  >:( Reshaped an old busted crow bar and a piece of round stock into a couple of body spoons and gently tapped my way out of one big dent into what we'll call a few smaller more acceptable dents. Not happy, not happy at all...so I'll be in the market for a new tank soon so I can swap them out and strip the dented one down and get it fixed up. I think someone disguised a Tuesday as a Monday, like I said...it was not a good day. :'(

The father of the VMAX (Venture) had a much bigger tank.  It is between the frame under the seat with a long fat neck.  Looks phalic.  you can see it in that pic i posted a page or two back.

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.
