Today I was wrapping up my 3-day bike makeover. Well, minor stuff. Had wednesday-friday off work, so I decided to give the ol' girl some love. Pulled the wheels and painted the rims black. Major headaches ensued. Pulled the front fender, stripped the chrome (big rust spots and the chrome was peeling away pretty bad), and painted it black. Buddy dropped it on the floor on accident (Doh!). Cleaned it back up, hit some more clear coat on it. I have to get more tomorrow but that will be done. Also finished up the wheels. Letting the clear coat sit overnight before I pull off the masking tape. So by tomorrow night I should have her put back together. Also spent the last few days cleaning the carbs real well. A 1 hour simple green bath made them sparkle like (almost) new, then a thorough cleaning of the guts. And on top of everything, I had quite a fantastic time sanding and polishing the front sprocket cover, the other left hand cover, and the brake drum. I think I'm now developing arthritis in my shoulders and wrists, haha.
All said and done, she looks world better, but still quite a ways to go. Only had it a month but it is a totally different motorcycle than the one I bought.
So, on the agenda for next week - finish cafe seat fabrication, paint seat and repaint tank, new headlight bucket, fork gaiters, new headlight ears, sleek new turn signals front and back, and I'm sure I'll come up with more stuff to do. Good heavens, these bikes are addicting!
