I walked by mine today and thought, it's time to fill the tanks, run some stabilizer through them all, drain the carbs and put in a bit of oil to lube the cylinders.

What did you do on yours today?

I got the head back from bead blasting, and discovered that the exhaust valve guides were quite worn. I had a spare set of new bronze guides in a box, so I machined up a punch to remove the old ones:

After a couple of taps with the hammer, they were all out:

And just as easily, the new ones were installed:

I lapped in a set of valves, patted myself on the back for doing such a thorough job, and poured myself a glass of Whisky! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

HI Terry,

...without heating up the head by pressing them out ? and without cooling down the guides to put them back in the head ?

I am still waiting for my valve cover that I put the K2 engine back in the frame.

G'Day Georg, yeah mate, I did it cold, I was going to heat it up until I read the manual and there was no mention of heating/cooling and it was a really easy job. I think the bead blasting helped, by removing all the carbon and crap from the bottom of the guides, there was no scoring in the valve guide holes in the head casting. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Cleaned my shop, put all my tools away then sat down to make a list.
I made a list of each bike i have and what i need to do to it.

Then i took the carbs off my 74 cb550, re cleaned, rejetted and charged my battery,  i have a charging prob now.
Put the carbs back on and now ready to test it out, but had to come to work today.

Got my side covers from Franken for the K2 they fit perfect, now what color scheme should i do.  hmmmmm.

good day,

I had a fish eye in the paint, sanded it smooth hit it with primer, then paint and it lifted and ruined the whole job. Side covers survived the carnage though. Had the heat on in the front shop, must be the spray enamel my brother wanted to use.

Well it's inspection time again. The nearest Honda dealer is about 35 to 40 miles away, so I took my CB750 to the Harley dealership not far from my house for the yearly inspection. Talk about a conversation piece, the old girl still has it. Mixed in with all the Road Kings, Electra Glides, V-Rods my 35 year old K6 got all the attention. The 30 year Harley tech was grinning from ear to ear when he started it up and rode it in to the inspection bay, of course I was watching him like a hawk all the way in. He said when was growing up a friends dad had one of these Honda's and didn't think any of these were still around not in this good condition anyway. I told him about the SOHC4 forum and all us older guys that love these bikes and there's alot more of these Honda's still out there than you think. Nothing sounds like a SOHC4 in the middle of a shop full of Harley V-twins. Oh yeah she past inspection with no trouble ;D

I lapped in the valves on my K2 head and tested them by inverting the head and filling the combustion chambers with solvent. Nothing had leaked out after 30 minutes, so it's good to go! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Well on Saturday, I took a ride in the am to 20th Century Cycles in Oyster Bay (NY).  Billy Joel opened up a place where he now puts his bikes.  A lot of  8) stuff there including 2 Honda's.  One was a 450 twin and the other a 550-4. ::) I got some photos that I took with my cell phone but  :-[ since I don't have the right USB wire connector, I can't show them to you just yet.  There was a lot of interest in my #750 parked outside.

On Sunday, I replaced the points and condensors.  The original screws holding down the points were all buggered up (yup, from me during prior changes getting them tight) so I had to go to the hardware store for replacements.  The photo was before I changed them.  Looks like I had trouble in the past cause one screw was replaced with a small bolt.  That fawpau was corrected with the new phillips screws from the hardware store.

Installed Vintage Zeppelin (Blue Dot) turn signals, front and rear and re-routed the throttle cables under the headlight to reduce the rats nest of wires collapsing at the headlight after I installed my Clubmans. Adjusted throttle tension and what do you know, I have a snappy throttle again.

Re-built the the front brake caliper. Couldn't believe the rust in that mother! Isn't that supposed to be sealed?
Nevertheless, I have unsticky front brakes now!

That's no good mate, what brand of tank sealer did you use? I just read an article about modern fuels and tank sealers, they said not to use any fuel with any percentage of ethanol as the ethanol can bugger up the tank sealer and they've had cases where the sealer has been sucked into the engine causing blocked carb jets and even problems with valves getting a build-up of tank sealant on them and not sealing, thus losing compression and running like shiite, or not running at all. I've sealed my tank with POR-15, I'm not sure if it's ethanol resistant or not, so I better do some research. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks Dave, I bought a litre of POR-15 a couple of years ago so I've got enough for one more tank, but I've saved the KBS link into my favorites, 55 bucks is a bargain, my local bike shop wants 130 bucks for one POR-15 kit! Cheers, Terry.  ;D

I was going to change out my shocks. Which turned into fixing my oil pump leak. Then putting on the rear sets, cleaning the carbs, putting on the dress up tappet covers on, re-wiring the headlight, cleaning the frame, pulling my 4-4 pipes to put my 4-1 header on (still have to paint or chrome it first) Mocking up my early F rear for my rear disk conversion...

Never got the shocks on since on is missing one of the bushings.

Since my 550 will probably be out of operation for a little
I dropped off my 750 seat to be re-done so I can ride the 836.
