Managed to break my clutch cable just 2 blocks from home while heading out for breakfast with Jaffa, luckily my bro-in-law had a spare Custom one which will do until I can either buy a new one from DSS or get one made locally.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

man theyre a big looking bugger terry, ive done the same thing once but miles from home hush,on an IT400,on the road, today i painted a headlight bucket, lightly sprayed the frame again in the sun(big white hot thingy in the sky)sorted bolts to be replaced, sorted stuff for sale, fitted proper grease nipples on the swingarm shaft bolt, still waiting on the correct bushes to come for the swing arm, itll be a meccano set once i get them,i was hoping to get it on the road during the break,i think ill have to borrow the rear shocks and seat from the 500 to do it though.

Thanks Dave, it is huge, and it's huge fun too! I took Lloyd's advice and took Goldie for a decent ride after ignoring it while i was building the blue bike, anyway, good news is that once I got the oil hot the starter clutch works fine again now, but I'll remove the CycleX Lockup clutch so I can fit a kick starter, the lockup clutch works great, but I like that kicker too. What paint did you use for your frame mate? I have to paint my K1 frame ASAP. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

i just use wattyl pressure pack high gloss black, with the undercoat being the same brand,it hardens up great, this is a budget build,i used it on my 500 and it holds up well, shake the can alot and spray it in the sun,all the sundry parts in black got the same treatment, same as the 500,not the same paint on my new avatar of course!thats holding up well, three years old and ridden a lot,"johns custom cycles"at currumbin also painted the new ones tank and side panels.

Well I looked at the garage and the 30 degree weather... thought about riding it then almost fell on my ass on the solid 1 inch sheet of ice covering the driveway and thought better of it.  And when I left work at night the frosted over everything confirmed my better judgement.

Hey Terry did you get that 1st gear clunk / clutch issue figured out was it the oil?  I have the same thing going on and am using valvoline too.  Can't tell you how annoying it is when I come to a light and think its in 1st and have to hit it again after I rev the engine.

G'Day Mate, no, I didn't end up changing it, Mark, the new owner asked me about the "clunk" into first and the fact that it's tricky to get back into neutral and I suggested that he dump that Valvoline shiite out and replace it with some good 20W50 motorcycle oil. I've got Penrite HPR30 in Goldie, and it just "snicks" into gear. Be careful on that ice mate, the only ice here is floating in my glass of Chivas Regal! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Decided to try my hand at rotor drilling.  Found a pattern that someone posted here a while back and went at it.  In the process of taking my front wheel off, I discovered that the front bearings needed replaced...so did that too.  Now, if we'd just get a nice warm day here so I can see how the brakes feel.   ::)

Well I am using 10w40 val 4stroke motorcycle oil in it.  And yea neutral is a pita when its hot.  I usually have to shut it down to find it.  Yea figures it was actually warm here (40ish) and most of the ice melted... after I put a 5lbs bag of checmical ice melter all over the driveway!  I didn't ride (was running late) and said to myself I'll ride it tomorrow if its nice.... SIGHS.... Just checked weather and its raining for the next 4 days! (grumbles something nasty).

Ha ha, well as I type this at 7pm I see that the temp has just dropped below 100 deg F for the first time today mate, so we're both suffering from the extremes of temperature, just at opposite ends of the scale.

It was so hot that the garden hose burst when I was checking Sean's fuel tank for leaks and I instantly soaked my shorts (with the hose......) so I just dropped my shorts off and hung them over a trash can, and after walking around in my underpants for 5 minutes my shorts were dry and hot. (I'd hate to think what it'd be like inside that trash can)

Anyway, I went to a car parts place where I bought their last 4 NGK D7EA spark plugs and also some nice Bosch 8mm silicon spark plug leads and came home and gave my K1 an early 40th birthday present. I also replaced the old fuel lines with nice clear hose and new filters and then I fired the old girl up. Lovely. It was way too hot to go for a ride today, but tomorrow it'll be back in the mid 70's, so a nice ride followed by a couple of frosty pints of Pure Blonde at the pub on the way home will be in order, methinks! ;D

Been having the same shifting problem myself and my partner's bike, was too scared to start another oil thread war but was thinking it was the oil.
We here in NZ get one choice of motorcycle oil, it's highly refined and perfect for slippery pocket rockets but was never envisaged when my bike was built in 79.
I'll have to do some hunting around for some of that 20W50 stuff Terry, thanks for the tip.
Oh yeah it's 30 degrees here too but that's 30 degrees celcius! ;D
Mick, I feel for ya mate, been watching the Aussie weather for the last few days and it aint pretty in your part of the country, my daughter says she is OK but she's in central Brisbane so I guess chances of a flood like Bundee is getting is quite small.

Didn't read right thru this post - but HUSH,...wotz the boil with oil? I get ELF brand motorcycle oil here in Palmerston North in either 10w40 or 20w50. Oil is labelled specific for 4-stroke motorcycle. I "think" ELF are French - but don't let that put you off.  ;D

Still waiting on parts to show up for the 750, so I decided to at least start my CL350 since I hadn't ridden it in quite a while.  Anyway it fired right up and I took a quick ride, now it's back to waiting on parts for my other bike.

I popped open the seat to get the tool kit out becasue I thought I could use a wrench from it on the 3 wheeler motor I was working on today. I know, it doesn't really count but it's the most I've done on the bike in a long time. Damn winter. :(

I really like those Yama-Harleys mate, nice looking engine, are they bevel drive cams (the tubes look like early ducati bevel drive tubes) or are there pushrods hidden in there? Cheers, Terry. ;D

I took mine out for a ride!  Last ride of the year, and in Michigan no less!  Temp was in the fifties but was rainy.  The wife convinced me to take it out anyway.  Maybe I'll ride tomorrow too. ;)

This is all I had time for today.  CCOErika and I renewed our vows today.  10 years.

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Bought a sheet of 16ga steel, some square stock, and some round bar to get started on making a seat pan/tail section.  Bought a board and some hinges to make a small press brake to bend it up.  Bought some thin (0.025") wire and tips for the welder.

Went back and forth on tank selection, may be in the process of abandoning the pretty little CB200 tank in favor of the stock tank with knee-dents.  In order to best use the CB200 tank on the 550 frame I'm going to have to cut it in half and widen it by about an inch, something I have no great desire to do.  On the other hand the knee dents aren't finished on the stock tank, and getting them symmetrical and flat is going to be harder than getting the purple out of a baboon's butt.

Oh, spent at least an hour hunting for my rear brake pedal, still haven't found it.  Managed to get my other bike, the Harley, stuck in the snow.

Warmed up the bike and thought about taking it for a spin, however its still raining and I hate riding in the rain, esp at night. I did manage a nice burn out in the garage tho! Much to the dismay of my neighbor's, wife and company..  ;D

pulled apart a speedo drive unit, painted it,fitted all the rubbers back onto the battery holder, wire wheeled a few bolts, wet stoned the disc, and took the top off a beer, happy new year all.
