Cleaned and scrubbed the 650 - much shinier!  Also used some of that "Mother's Back to Black" on the seat.  I rubbed in a healthy amount last night and let it sit over night.  Came out the next morning and the seat was Gorgeous!!!  A much deeper shade of black - almost like new.  My Dad uses it all the time on vintage snow machine seats that have faded with age - seems to work just fine on bikes too!

Mequires leather wipes work well too.  In fact, you can wipe darn near the whole bike down with them in a short time and it will look darn good.

I slide on it anyway, lol.  The flat seat and foot position does not work for me.  I have to hold on to the bars when I pull out of the hole.  Can be a bit tricky at times.

Yesterday my dad and I picked up the K2 that we will be sharing. Since we don't have any room to keep it or work on it right now we will store it at my grandpa's barn. We wanted to put it in the milkhouse but it was too wide and we didn't bring tools to take the handlebars and fairing off so it will stay in the milking parlor for now. Once we get it going it will stay in the garage at my new place that I move to in a couple months.

Kind of odd to be putting an old bike into an old barn rather than rescuing it from one...

Bought some bearings from Charlie's, and took my nice rims up for a bearing job at my dad's shop.  No riding for me this weekend  :'(

Tinkered with air/fuel screw on the carbs.  trining to get to a happy idle but its still stalling out on me at stops without some choke even when warm.

300 new miles on the 750 since her reserection.

Also primed my new franken side covers.  Texas sun was turning them yellow fast.

Yesterday I did an oil change & check over.

Drained the oil, nice and black due to the action of the SeaFoam for about 200 miles. I finally have a way to keep a funnel and oil can wedged into the oil tank drain to let it drip out.  I like to give the oil lots of time to drain so I was wrapping the harness from the CL450 I am restoring while the CB70 drained from all available orifices. like to flush the tank with a few OZ of new oil before buttoning it up again.

I found Fran filters on sale so I bought all they (4) had at 3.95. Shell Rotella 15w-40 JSO-MA, and

Replaced the front hose between the oil tank and motor sump with one of the scrap 750F because the original was frayed and my attempt to paint it light gray looked bad.

Dropped the oil pan this time, which I have taken to doing every other oil change.

I was missing the washer from my filter assembly, must have been that way since I bought it.  I made one from a washer using a stepped hole drill and my Dremel (my favorite tool  ::) )  I am sure it is primarily there to insure the seal is compressed more evenly.

Cleaned off the head gasket leak, and verified the grease pack in the tac seal area is keeping the oil sealed. (still dry after about 2000 mi.).

Filed the points lightly and rechecked the gap.

Started to gather up the parts for a major suspension rework soon.  Rebuilt KONIs on the rear, Mikes XS emulators in the front, new fork oil, and fork seals.  I found a new rear plastic fender which cracked when i reassembled 3 years ago. Putting it all in one see through plastic bin which I will store some place that will take me 20 min to find when I want to start the work. :)

Guy sold these carbs to me for 35 bucks. All I needed was the emulsion tubes.

So cleaning and reinstall, will try to start today.

made new wiring loom for tail-lights & indicator. Have absolutely no idea where I put the originals.
Re-re-painted front brake caliper housing. (got generously splashed with brake fluid as I was trying to pump out stuck piston).

Still working on getting the script right.  The black and white paint mixed together so that didn't work.

This time I sprayed a thin layer of white on a sheet of paper and kept lightly dabbing it.  It is kinda bumpy but actually looks good like that.  I suppose I could sand it flat if I wanted to.  I may stick with it as it is.  It has good clean edges.

Took mine grocery shopping this morning, then into Flint to deliver a friend his jacket that he left at my house over a year ago.  Went to Rocky's, since I was in Flint, and bought a small tent for the Rally.  The evening I took a card and gift certificate, from a local Ice Cream shop, to the neighbors down the street that found my saddlebag for me.  As I was turning around in their gravel driveway I managed to dump the bike. ::)  So I had to go out for a long ride to recover. ;D

But the best thing is that my new Pamco ignition came in to day! ;D ;D ;D

Well, yesterday and today I reinstalled the float bowl with the JB Welded overflow tube then reinstalled the carbs. Used a hair dryer to warm the boots and the popped right on.

Still wouldn't start and run consistently, but at least the leak was solved. Started again today. Spent several hours and finally decided to check that gas was getting to the carbs. Opened the drain on carb 1, no gas. removed the float bowl and the float. Turned on the tap, nothing. Pondered for a while and decided to turn the tap to reserve, sure enough, gas flowed freely. As I was going to reinstall the float I  noticed the main jet laying in the bottom, so I reinstalled the jet, then the bowl.

Turned on the tap, let the carbs fill, hit the starter, bam, fired right up.

Rode it for a couple miles, then time to deal with the stuck oil filter bolt. Finally the only thing that worked was a cold chisel. Eventually got it off with a cold chisel. Drained the oil, installed a new filter.

Finally, time for a ride. Rode it 50 miles. First ride longer than 1 mile in 30 years.

Ran like a champ. The only problem I had is the throttle cable kept popping out of the holder. Finally had to stop and tighten the heck out of it. We'll see how that holds up. Tomorrow synch the carbs and then I think that I am ready for the relay when it hits Chicago next Saturday.
