CB550 Pricing advice
« on: November 03, 2009, 07:06:42 PM »
I am looking at a 74 CB550 slightly under 10,000 miles. Per the current owner; he says the condition is very good, a few small nicks and usual scratches, pipes are in good shape but a little rust on the bottom. seat good and chrome also good. I have yet to see it, but assuming all is pretty good, but not necessarily 'showroom'; what is a fair price. If I could pick it up for $1000 should I go for it?

Anything to watch out for on this example? I already have been advised to look for the cam chain tensioner thingy sticking out the back.  Since I am used to old 2 strokes  are there any noises to be aware of (valves, cams etc...).

Any advice is appreciated, thanks, Bruce

Doesnt sound bad to me. You will probably need to bring up the maitenance . Make sure the kill switch is good and the hi lo switches are good. They are hard to find. Does it run? Look for rust in the tank.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

Supposedly runs quite good, no rust in the tank. Thanks for the switch advice.

turds are cheap tho .... was there any prices discussed ....  if it ran, but needed some TLC thats still a good deal at ... say ... 500-700  .... if you want a CB , chances of finding a nice one are pretty slim
