Best way to preserve polished alu
« on: November 21, 2009, 08:23:38 AM »
Hi sohc4 friends

What's the best way to preserve polished aluminum without clear painting? I am fixing up my bike during this winter, and I going to polish all the alu parts. But as we all know, alu gets faint after a few months.

Thanks in advance,

i wouldnt clear coat it, tends to turn yellow and peel with age. just keep polishing, as long as you keep it up the initial polishing is the worst and a quick buff every couple of months will keep it looking nice. since i live on the coast i usually wax after polishing to help fight corrosion. i have a buddy who owns a detailing buisness, and when he gets a bike the price is dependent on the amount of chrome/ polished aluminum. my dads harley cost an arm leg and both testies. and took about 5 hours to detail

Look at this thread:

I heard of this stuff called ZOOP SEAL,

and thought it was expensive, so I never tried it.  If your pockets are deeper than mine, maybe you can try it and let us know how it works?

+1 on the Zoopseal, I'm saving my pennies for the big kit.
