My GTX Just Might Get An "Air Grabber"
« on: November 10, 2009, 09:22:49 PM »
For those who don't know, the "Air Grabber" is a package that attaches under the hood and allows the engine to get FRESH air from outside the engine compartment of the car. "Air Grabber" is a Mopar name for that package. You see, a buddy of mine, who IS a Mopar fanatic (like me, only worse), apparently heard that there was a new car in the area. As my Daughter Karla and I were getting ready to leave the house today, my buddy (Larry) drove by with his son and spotted the car. They stopped to check out the car and then he realized it was me. We got to talking, he knew that I had wanted another one for several years (I met him when I worked in the local GMC dealership about 11 or 12 years ago). Suddenly he turned to me and said that he had an "Air Grabber" setup and it needed to be on THIS car! :o 8) Well, I'm not about to complain about that. Another piece of info here, MY 69' road had that same package on it, back then! 8) What can I say, I'm not about to turn him down! 8) It just keeps on getting better! ;)

Here is a photo of a road runner with the package installed.

Back in the day, a buddy had a '71 Road Runner with the Air Grabber.  It was a vacuum operated scoop that opened on command.  Is it the same for the GTX?

For 1970, it was, but on the 69' (1st year of the Air Grabber), it simply meant that, on the outside, there were screens on the hood inserts and there was a cable operated flap system to open and allow outside air to come in. Here's an ebay listing of a hood with it installed, but it's in pretty rough shape. You can see how it looks on the outside though. I couldn't do just the photos, sorry.   look at the first 3 photos and you'll get the idea. ;)
