Great Movies with scenes you just cant stand to watch...
« on: November 10, 2009, 02:01:57 PM »
Slayer made reference to Royal with Cheese in another thread.
It got me thinking about this question.  Those scenes where ya gotta get out of the room, fast forward thru, or just simply cover your eyes.   :o
Lets hear whatcha got!  i'm sure there will be plenty.

I'll start with:
The ear scene in Reservoir Dogs.  My favorite movie, but that S is Brutal!

All of Brokeback Mountain starting at the opening credits.
Dedicated to Sgt. Howard Bruckner 1950 - 1969. KIA LONG KHANH.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

Thats funny, when I read this subject I thought of Pulp Fiction again. The adrenaline needle through the chest makes me cringe every time. Must be a Tarantino thing.

That Steven King film with Cathy Bates & James Caan...  where she has him in the bed and takes a sledge to his ankles.  Brutal.

How 'bout the wood chipper scene at the end of Fargo
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

I have yet to find a movie with a scene in it that was too disturbing to watch.  Disturbing, yes, but that doesn't stop me from watching lol :)

I would say the original Night of the Living Dead. When the little girl is eating her Mother I find disturbing.

"Happiness".  I love that movie, but the entire thing is teetering on the verge of being unbearable to watch.

Call me a nerd, but Transformers '86... the opitmus death scene was cheezy, even when I was five... otherwise that show was filled with end to end awesome.

+1 on Night of the Living Dead Bobby

I am mixed on my reactions with the zombie movies (my favorite genre) because I cringe a little, and giggle incessantly.

Guess you guys have weak stomachs over there  ;D - blood and gore never bothered me that much but the supernatural stuff can get a bit freaky, like the library steps scene in the original B&W Haunting film.

How about the eyeball slicing in Un Chien Andalou? Not all french films are boring ;-)

Yeah, the scene in Misery made me pucker mucho, otherwise I am pretty hard to gross out.

Blood, guts, and bone don't bother me too much, Two girls one cup didn't really phase me either. ;)

Only happened to me once (speaking of Veteran's Day  ::)).

Wife and kids rented Saving Private Ryan about 12 years ago.  The opening scenes triggered a sense of combat like no movie had ever done.  Never happened before; never happened since; even though I've seen lots of war movies.  But that evening I got up and left the room in tears.  I learned something about myself that day.

My wife is a horror movie fan.  I leave lots of those because some of the scenes disturb my sleep later.  Just not my thing.  But Saving Private Ryan I was compelled to leave.

The Saving Private Ryan did something to me also. I've never been in combat or served for that matter, but I've seen plenty of war movies and educational stuff and that opening seemed too real. Even old combat footage, even though it's real I still feel like an outsider, but that scene puts you RIGHT THERE. Makes me respect even more what our vetrans have gone through for us and are willing to go through.

one from the 80's Serpent and the Rainbow. there was a scene where a guy was strapped into a chair and someone puts a railroad looking spike onto "the boys" and brings a big hammer down onto the spike. the only movie that ever gave me nightmares till i saw district 9

BlackHawk Down, when the first Blackhawk hits the ground and you hear the radio traffic, "we have a blackhawk down in the city",  That scene made me sick to my stomach. Not to tell war stories, but I was on a patrol in Kosovo and we got separated during one of the riots. I could relate directly to that feeling of a handful of soldiers all alone in a place you didn't want to be caught alone in. Luckily we linked up, but it could have been bad.

The fire extinguisher and tunnel scenes in "Irreversible".

The eyeball slicing is also very disturbing. I think I've seen it just once, after that time, I always look somewhere else when the scene is going. Buñuel -a spanish expatriate in France after spanish civil war- was an specialist in shaking and provoking.

Talking about "saving private Ryan", there is an scene that bring a tear to my eye everytime I see it. The mother falling to her knees when she sees the car coming her way, anticipating what the news were.
