1979 cb650 oil light issue

ok this is the first time i have really had this problem and i dont like it. im out on a little ride then i go to pick up some tail light bulbs for my bike and on my way back home my oil light comes on. i get home check the oil, it is a little low so i top it off. then i let it run a little bit but the light stays on. some one please let me know whats up i know i have the right amount of oil but the light is on. could it just be a wire or is the sensor messed up? please let me know asap

It's a 30 year old bike. Lots of stuff can go wrong.

The switch can go bad.

If the wire is grounded anywhere between the switch and the light..... voilá! a little red light that stays on.

If it isn't one of those, you probably wouldn't have got home.

Mine went on on the race bike once.  Paniced and switched bikes. got home and it was just the sensor. 
18 grand and 18 miles dont make you a biker

Disconnect the wire at the oil pressure switch. If the warning light stays on, you've got a problem in the circuit back to the bulb.....if it goes out check/replace the oil pressure switch (sender).

If the warning light stays on (engine running) with a new switch, you've most likely got an oil pressure problem, and better get it tested.

well i just went out and checked everything finally and the light is off and all is well

Remember light has nothing to do with level its for pressure
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!
