Is this a Dyna S ignition?
« on: November 16, 2009, 01:34:48 pm »
This was installed by the previous owner. Is it a Dyna S ignition covered in black Goop? Or something else? The timing is off on 2-3 cylinders and I need to adjust it.

Thx

That might be a Prestolite.

And the winner is......... B.Waller. It's an old Prestolite. I bought a bunch of NOS Prestolite ignitions from a guy in Oregon who used to have a shop, he warned me that they were pretty crappy and he wasn't wrong, but if yours is still working, that's a bonus, as they were certainly at the "lower scale" of quality electronic ignitions.

From memory, you need to be mindful of the air gap between the rotor and the pickup, Prestolite used to supply a thin plastic "feeler gauge" (and they stressed that you musn't use anything metal) to set the gap. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Thanks for the info everyone.
It has worked fine for the ten years that I have owned the bike. 1-4 Cylinder timing is perfect but the 2-3 cylinder timing is slightly retarded. It might be time to get a Dyna S if I cannot adjust the 2-3 cylinder timing.
Cheers,
