1978 CB750F Missing Fuel Door Lock Solution?
« on: November 11, 2009, 04:31:44 PM »
I have a 1978 CB750F with a missing fuel door lock. Any suggestions, I am open to any and all. I am not worried about the door locking. Does anyone know of a low profile push button latch or something of that nature to plug the hole? Or would anyone happen to have an entire ignition/lock set with keys to replace all of mine with? I am trying to get away with not having to carry 2 keys for the bike. Any and all ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, and thanks for all the great info thus far -Luke

The fuel door doesn't actually lock, you just need something that fits in it to turn it to open.  ie a screwdriver, key, etc.  So you should be able to get another fuel door lock from another 750F and it should work just fine with your existing key.

I have a '76 750F, and had the same problem.  When I bought the bike, the lock was completely corroded (thank you Pacific Ocean), and I had to keep a shorty screwdriver in the trunk to open it.  b82ta is right, the lock isn't actually keyed.  I found a new door and lock on ebay for about $20.  The '75-76 doors/locks look to be the same as yours.

The 550 F model tanks 75-77 used the same latch type, as did the 77-78 K model tanks.
