CB550 fork tubes
« on: November 11, 2009, 10:36:32 PM »
I have a '76 CB550F.  The fork tubes carry this part number: 51410-390-003

Just won a OEM fork tube on E-bay yesterday.  I was the only bidder and I couldn't pass it up.

The description says it fits '77 and '78 CB550 (both F and K models).  It has a different part number: 51410-404-003

Is anybody familiar with the differences between these tubes?  I am guessing that the valving might be slightly different.

I'm not planning on using it anytime soon, just got a good deal and wanted a spare.  My current fork tubes are okay, they just have rust in the triple clamp area.  Let me know what you think, it will help me decide on buying the next fork tube.

Thanks, Mike

76 an 77 forks are different.  You'll see when your new ones arrive.  They are interchangeable in pairs only.

The forklegs are longer on the later two years models, but the overall installed height was less.

Quess that means the tubes are shorter.  ;D
