The intent is not to generate extra posts. Certainly not the kind of posts appearing in this thread. Actually, I'm considering setting things up so that posts to the Open Forum don't count toward your total post numbers. Alot of what is being posted here right now won't remain when old posts that have no real content value are deleted. Really, two years from now, who will bother reading something like 'xxx posts to go for a new star'? The stuff just clogs up the forums and when there's lots of it, slows things down.
Karma, if it proves useful, is all about rating the quality of posts and where it is most relevant is the tech section. Maybe it is a bit too critical for this group and would drive people away or make some people uncomfortable about posting. We don't want that to happen. For right now, let's call this a two week experiment. The board moderators will decide if we should continue this in the new year.
