Hello from Jackpot, NV

200 miles, 98F, luggage, two-up, and no windshield.

Good ride, but I understand why a gold wing would be better for this. Lots of 75-80 MPH riding. Now time to gamble and drink!

I was through there in 1982 on a bike trip.  Not much there then...has it gotten any better? ;D ;D

I was on my way from Twin Falls to Lake Tahoe on that leg of my trip.

At 98 probably a good thing you didn't have a windshield. :P

Just made it back home.

Yea, a windshield may have been a nightmare. There was some gruesome freeway winds on the last stretch home and it was terrible, especially with all the travelers trying to rush back home. Idaho freeways are easily 85MPH. Going 75 is being a slow-poke.

Nice ride all and all. I'm glad I went. It was supposed to be my test-trial for Reno, NV. My friend wants to ride 421 miles there. I don't think I can do that, personally. The Jackpot trip was too much for my girlfriend, and no way in hell will she do a 421 miles all in one day!

Was my first time to Jackpot. Yea, wasn't much. We stayed at Cactus Petes, drank whiskey went swimming, and ate their great buffet food. Even carried home $23.00 from the Blackjack table.

I am sure traveling with the girlfriend has it's benefits but IMO these bikes just aren't up for that (comfort wise) on a long trip.  I did it once on a 700 mile round trip two up and never did it again.  Try it again solo and see what you think.   Lucky for me my wife is not interested in spending more than an hour on the bike so I never have to ride two up any distance.

Really depends on your comfort. Zone..some riders don't ride enough to find theirs....or just have not yet.
I remember riding 500 miles in a day, two up, don't recall it being an ordeal..
A buddy and his girl rode his CB500 four, from  BC to Ontario and maybe east coast one summer.. No apparent problem...

I didn't mind it too much, but to be honest, I was tired for 3 days straight when I got back. Just couldn't get enough sleep in the following days. That was only 400 miles round trip, too! I probably should have stayed another day in Jackpot. I wasn't expecting 200 miles to take 5 hours (with gas stops and a meal stop).

I think without her on the back, It wouldn't be so bad. It was actually fine two-up…I'm 6'4 and she's 5'8, so we aren't short people and still had good room. But she just can't handle rides that long. Maybe on a bigger bike, better weather conditions she might, but she won't go two-up again at that distance. :(

For me, I could easily go more than 200 miles in a day. But at a certain period, I think you become less and less safe over time as you start to become fatiqued. Best to do it safely! I'd rather be a slow poke and just enjoy the ride than to eat up as much miles as possible.

This ride got me to call off the Reno, NV trip. My friend was thinking it would be "easy" to ride that distance in one day from Boise. The furthest he's ever ridden was 220 miles. 421 miles is seriously a lot! No thanks, especially on these old bikes! The Reno trip would have been 1100+ miles over 4 days. That would be miserable and tiring.

My next goal is to go 250 miles. I'd love to take the bike up camping and just pack what I need on the back!

My stupid Diiachi points (which were brand new, timed perfectly) got out of whack at 350 miles…that's all it took.

During our road trip through Tennessee a couple of weeks ago my wife and I put close to 700 miles on my F2 during our 3 days of riding there and the 750 never missed a beat but it wasn't all that comfortable for my wife. I installed a his/hers seat late last year and it does help but I still had to stop every 50 miles so she could walk around a bit but that was fine because there were plenty of scenic turnoff areas where we could stop and soak in the scenery of the Appalachian and Smokey mountains. If we were say 20 years younger it wouldn't be much of an issue but my wife is anxious for me to get my GL1100 road worthy again because it will no doubt be a more comfortable touring bike.

Fatigue is a bugger..
Gets bad when riding the 15-20 hour part of the day....

I gonna suggest, you are just not yet broken in..

I can usually do a long day first time out in years,  but some cant seem to ever do it..
For me it's mostly just glad to get to go somewhere, does not happen often.

And remember 5,  80-100mile rides, one after the other in one day, will seem easier than 400..
Just do it, or you will miss out on what your bike can effortlessly.do...  And is made for..
