engine teardown pics and questions
« on: November 12, 2009, 03:19:07 PM »
so after much curiousity about my73k parts bike and many questions.... i tore into her tonight finally got down to the pistons to measure em and........ 61mm!!!! yeaaay stock... :P  :(  i was hoping i would find some 64s in there but oh well they looked like someone spent a week cooking burgers on em.... it reminded me of grill crust.... so here lies a couple questions..... the pistons said...(had written on them.. they dont talk) 300 12 on two of them and 300 10 and 300 7.... whats the difference between these?  will any burn marks indicate a bad set of rings or is it normal tarnish... i think the oil has been in there for 7 or 8 years or so.......

u shouldnt reuse them right?
Right  ;D
Check the head with a metal straight edge especially around that combustion chamber area where the gasket is shot.
It's probably a good idea to get it lightly faced if you want to use it as well as considering a valve job.
If I was you
I'd be worried about me.
