750F2 Frame Modification

I found it very frustrating to not be able to remove the cam cover,cylinder head or barrel from the engine when the bike was complete...so I modified the frame so that the tubes that went from the back of the bike to the front down tubes were along the same lines as the Seeley frames.

I bought some Reynolds 531 tubing from Colin Seeley and bent the tubing up when at work one day.I then had the frame brazed at a local welders.
The main item that I had to have especially made for the bike was the tank,which was made along the same lines as the tank for the Phil Read Replica.I managed to find the same bloke as who made them for Seeley,who also just happened to make tanks for Barry Sheene.

I did have a lumpy cam from Yoshimura that I could drop in easily,but I found that the carbs needed to be upgraded to 29mm smoothbores to make full use of the cam,so I bought a good condition secondhand F2 cam and had reground instead.

As can be seen by the pictures it does make a big differance to how easy the bike was to work on.Unfortunately I had an argument with a car down a dark unlit back road near Brands Hatch...and the bike came off the worse for wear...

The inspiration for the tank came from this bike...which was the latter version of the Phil Read Replica sold in the UK after his Formula TT win in 1977.

Wow great mod and great story. Its too bad the bike ended the way it did.

Looks just like a CB750A frame.  Well, since I have this old automatic frame and this K1 frame without upper side rails, I wonder... Hmmm....   ::)  RR

It seemed a good idea at the time.

My Uncle, who lived in the San Fernando Valley, whose name was Peter Adams, was a keen follower of everything that I did with this bike. He used to work at Thousand Oak Honda, and let me ride his CBX1000Z when I was working on the Los Angeles Daily News. We had long chats about bikes, and his garage was full of bikes, including Vincents, in various states of dis-assembly.
Unfortunately, he passed away the other year. All that I have now are my photos of when we rode up to the Rock Store back in 1986.He rode his VFR1000R, which was his pride and joy.
