Vintage Motorcycle Pricing Guides
« on: November 13, 2009, 12:20:33 PM »
Does anyone know of a source for vintage motorcycle pricing guides.

Not looking for Kelly blue book stuff, but an actual guide for pricing out classics.

Basically looking for something like a motorcycle equivalent of a "Becks" guide for pricing out baseball cards.

Thanks!

That would be rather difficult to do. A lot depends on the condition of the bike. Three main categories of vintage bikes.

Original bikes
Survivor bikes
Restoration bikes

A showroom condition original bike would be worth a lot more than a showroom condition restoration bike. Survivor bikes are usually not stock and can bring decent money depending on the mods and the condition of the bike. I don't see how a book would be able to cover all that.  And another thing you have to take into consideration, something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.   A  VERY NICE 3 digit VIC WORLD RESTORATION SANDCAST only got a high bid of 14.6k on ebay which was about 10k less than the reserve and 1/2 what the bike cost from Vic World Cycles to begin with.

Join the VJEMC (Vintage Japanese and European Motorcycle Club). The have an on-line price guide for members on their site (http://www.vinjapeuromcclub.org/). They research auctions, eBay, and private sales to get the latest price average on the different grades of vintage bikes. It's quite an extensive listing of motorcycle makes too. This same guide will be published in 2010 and will be available on newsstands as well.

Nada is so far out of touch with reality it is as if they are on another planet in another galaxy. Not even worth while to look at them. And that includes even bikes made in the 90's.
1969 Sand Cast in excellent condition....$7500.

Oh....I'll take five of those please.... ;D

As far as the VJEMC pricing guide, I would say that it is on the high end in a lot of cases. Might be a good starting point for advertised price but I wouldn't expect to get exactly what it says. Also remember to be realistic as far as the condition of your bike.

Sparked My curiosity here, but work as sight blocked under the category "malicious sites"?  Should I be worried about checking this on my personal computer when I get home?

I've never had an issue opening the VJEMC web site at my place of employment or at home. Is your place of employment pro Harley? That could be the cause

http://bradsbikes.com maintains a list of recent bike sales.  List includes picture of bike, short description & sales price.  They usually have a nice selection for sale as well.

Scott's girlfriend here...
How about a source for the original MSRPs of these bikes? I was able to get a lower insurance premium on my 400F because I found the MSRP (instead of using the insurance company's "scale"). Now Scott would like to find the values for all our bikes and see if we can save some money.
I've been able to find most of the bikes, but in all sorts of different places. Does anyone know of a single source?

That's interesting. I can't imagine why the MSRP of a 40 year old motorcycle would be relevant to its insurance value today.
