cb500 gearshift fork source
« on: November 13, 2009, 02:30:49 AM »
Hello to everyone,

I'm doing a complete rebuild of a '72 cb500, but I cant find anywhere the center gearshift fork and the 2nd-3rd gear (the original ones are not in good shape) I have cecked the bay but I havent had much luck, becouse the few  parts I have found shows the same problem of my parts.
also the gearshift spindle has the splines worn out (the previous owner had to weld the gearshift lever to the spindle!!!!) where I can find it too?

Thanks in advance for any help!

finding new shift forks is almost mission impossible, you will have to re-weld and restore it or go for used parts from ebay.

Flavio Crispi (Crispi Corse) in Milano should be able to do it for you.

Try this website: http://www.hondarestoration.com/  They have a small stockpile of NOS parts.
You have to select the model, then scroll down and look for the part number.  They seem to have shift forks, not sure if it's the one you want.  I have not purchased from this site before, but I did meet the guy at a swap meet and he seemed nice.
Hope this helps!

If you can't find new, that center fork is the same one used in the 350 twin, might help when looking for used. I have a 2nd/3rd gear from a 350 and one from a 550 but it appears they aren't the same part#. Same tooth count though. If you're stuck for a shifter shaft you could cut the spline off any other model & weld onto your own.
