New ZEALAND bike riders rally
« on: November 13, 2009, 07:28:03 PM »
OK just got back from a great day with 250 other Kiwi riders on everything from Harleys to scooters.
We met at a park then travelled to the next city to confront the local Members of parliament on these disgusting 300% registration fees for motorcycles. >:(
I travelled next to a couple of 500 Matchless's and kept checking to make sure my exhaust hadn't fallen off, man those old critters are looouuuddd!!! ;D
Tomorrow we have the yearly motorcycle toy run for under priviledged kids and that should be a hoot, with my partner (the Jaffa) never having ridden in a group before and they expect 300 bikes. :D
Tuesday has riders from all parts of the country converging on Wellington to protest the new levies, my sister-in-law is coming all the way from Auckland and that's half the length of NZ she will be travelling.
Photos I got photos, check out the "rat bike"!
Having trouble with me photos, will post em soon.

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

That 'ratbiker' has a suspicious looking bit of sheep on it. ;D
Good luck on your 300% reduction thing. You're going to need it. ???

Cheers Spanner, about time the ALL WHITES showed their potential.
Today (Tuesday 17th) 3000+ riders are expected in Wellington (our capital city) to protest the horrendous new levies proposed for bikes.
If that doesn't get some Members of Parliament attention I don't know what will!
Time to kick this government to the curb I say. :D

Hi Rick, you should get all your car driving mates to go along as well because they'll be next on the governments hit list. If there was a bridge to NZ mate we would all be there.... ;)

that's a great point Mick! I run sports car events and it always seems sports car folks are down on motorcyclist. I think their mostly jealous. But, truth is, if we don't all stand together against excessive government, we'll all hang separately.

Grind it too them Hush, grind it to them, it's the only way politicians learn. If I was any where close I'd be there, finally a demonstration that I could go with.

This in todays news. ;D

Angry bikers have vowed to step up protests against the Government's plans to ramp up their ACC levies.

Thousands of bikers descended on Parliament yesterday over the issue and shouted down ACC Minister Nick Smith as he tried to address them.

With the planned changes, riders would have to pay $257.58, a raise from $58.97, to register a moped.

All motorcycle registrations currently cost $252.69. But from 2010/11 bikes from 125cc to 600cc would go up to $511.43, while those over 600cc would be $745.77.

Dr Smith met in the Beehive with some of the bikers following the protest and said the scale of the hikes was likely to be paired back.

"I've indicated to them that it's unlikely that the Government will agree to the scale of increase that the ACC board has recommended," he told reporters.

However, bikers have said they planned to cause further disruption in coming days to ensure their message gets through.

Biker Anne James said a large congregation and protest was planned for Auckland on Sunday.

"Hopefully, with any luck, there will be no carparks left in Auckland city on Sunday morning," she told Radio New Zealand.

Ms James said the bikers would not break any laws, but the scale of their actions was likely to cause large-scale congestion and disruption in Auckland.

One of the organisers of yesterday's "Bikoi", Brent Hutchison, said bikers were not going to "roll over" and let the Government follow through with its plans. "The war has just begun."

He said bikers had plenty of ways to continue causing disruption without breaking any laws and suggested future protests could bring cities to a stand-still.
That is something we used to do in the late 70's when they would not provide motorcycle parks in town, we took up all the car parks and fed the meters all night, we now have "free" bike parks all around town. :D

OK the New Zealand Government has seen fit to ignore the protests of the bike riders of NZ so they will feel our roth at the next election, this seriously could bring our tiny countries Government tumbling down...now wouldn't that be something eh! ;D
On Youtube here is a 5 minute video of bikes crossing the Auckland harbour bridge, if you realise that this is only the riders from the very top of our country, you will realise how we managed to get 6000 riders and their machines to Wellington last month to protest.
Each rider has a partner, parents, voting age kids...the politicians ignore us at their peril!

My bike will now cost $426 a year to register, most of that is actually Accident Compensation levies and our ACC system is supposed to be "no fault" so dividing people into riders and non riders is insane.

Are any more protest rides organized Hush, stick it too the bastards mate. That increase is even worse after reading that compared to Aussies your average wages are 30+% lower generally than ours and your dollar is worth 25% less than ours. You guys are being screwed and shouldn't take this at all.....There should be open season on politicians once a year just to keep the bastards honest. They seem to completely forget once elected that they are "public servants" we should have the power to dismiss them as soon as they screw up, seeing as we are their bosses..... ??? ??? ???   These type of stories make me see red.....
