Norton Dominator 99. Fresh off the bench.
« on: November 14, 2009, 08:51:59 AM »
Mind if I share some pics of my latest resto with you guys? It's a 1958 Norton Model 99 600cc which has taken me some two years to rebuild in my spare time. Its in it's original colour, and is a bit special as it has chrome guards and is twin carb, both 'optional extras' for the '59 model. Be interested as to what you think, and as to how much it's worth in the States - thinking of selling to fund the next one!

That's freakin' beautiful !!
I don't know what it's worth either, but it has to be a very large number, more than I could even dream about spending on a bike.

I sure wish those photos were larger.........

What am I doing wrong guys? I've downloaded Image Resizer from Powertoys and the setting is on large. Posting them on Photobucket first. It's not a model I promise!

Very, very nice.  I would have a hard time parting with it.  No idea on the value.  Recently I have seen two late 50's Norton singles sell for 1500-2000 and they were fairly complete basket cases requiring total restoration.

Just looked in my VJEMC price guide and it says $7,500 for excellent condition and $9,000 for absolutely not-a-spec-of-dust perfection

Thanks for all the kind words everyone, glad you like it. It's good to get some appreciation from fellow enthusiasts when you're married to someone who you could never leave if you wanted to in case she put a hammer through it because you spend more time and money on that bloody motorbike than you do on me and the kids blah blah blah
Course now its all done she's telling her friends her husbands got a Norton...

Fine bike oldskool.
If ya have to sell it to fund the next thats ok.
You have restored a bike and put it back into the community.

Now find yourself a nice BSA Spitfire to work over!

Spitfire eh? Bit too modern for me! Now if you said a 30's Sloper or 40's Panther...
May already have the next project staring at me in the face. My '77 CB750F2's frame is corroded in places and it's already been welded once. It's not a straightforward job to replace it as I significantly modded it when I built the bike about four years ago, so I'm thinking about what to do with it. 20 years ago I had a CB750 hardtail which was sooo much fun - in a straight line at least. I'm sorely tempted, but as said machine is off the road at the moment with carb holder disease I've got a bit of time to think about it!

Awesome bike, I love the early Dominators. I have never seen a model 99 in red, only the model 88 500cc. These are hard to come by in the states. I've been looking for one for quite a while now.
