Confusion on Cb550 pilot jet
« on: May 28, 2010, 06:20:42 PM »
Should I be able to see through the pilot jet from end to end and how is the pilot jet size determined.....by the hole size in bottom or several holes in tapered end piece? I recently removed the pilot jets from my 78 cb550k but cannot see through them.

The jet is a tube with a restriction roughly half way along the tube inside.  You should be able to see through it.

The actual metering orifice is around 0.016 inch in diameter, so don't get aggressive and make that inner hole too big.

Use a strand of copper electrical wire to help clear the jet. It is softer than brass, and won't damage the precision orifice.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!
