HM300/HM341 QUESTION
« on: November 16, 2009, 10:47:37 pm »
With all 4 black end cones removed do HM300's sound any different than HM341's?  Why did honda put the end cones in there to begin with?  Even with the end cones removed both sets of pipes still have baffling to quieten the exhaust right?  Personaly, I think the end cones make the pipes too quiet and are too restrictive.

As far as I know, the HM300 were straight through with a single baffle, the later HM340 had a different baffle design with a smaller outlet and probably more internal baffling as well as the removable end.
I would expect the 300 series to be louder than the 341 with and without the endcaps.

I suspect removing the baffles will not only increase the sound but also mess the carburation up

The HM300s do sound a lot different with/without baffles compared to the HM341s. HM341s as the previous poser mentioned have internal baffles (5-chamber design I believe) with the end cap. The HM300s have a removable baffle attached to the end cap. HM300s sound much deeper (and better IMHO) - I have both ;)

cheers
Andy

Remove the 341 diffusers end caps, drill out the internal baffle w/ a looong 1/4 in drill bit, maybe 7-10 holes. Hacksaw/modify the diffuser/end caps so the bigger hole is left over, replace the cap and your 341 will breathe and sound close to a 300 pipe.
Another way-cool mod is to remove the 300 diffusers/baffles and hacksaw off an inch from the inside end (its closed-off), replace diffusers w/o fiberglass wrap, now your bike will sound VERY healthy w/o being too loud. Much deeper sound.
