Up for sale is a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R (600 cc)with only 1,338 miles! The bike is all stock as is it was new from the factory. Seems perfect to me. No cracks, scrapes, scuffs or dings. Never been down. EXCELLENT condition and is like new! Must sell as-is. Free and clean title in hand

or this one?    http://columbia.craigslist.org/mcy/1453564565.html

YOU ARE LOOKING AT A VERY CLEAN 2007 HARLEY DAVIDSON FXST. IT IS BLACK IN COLOR. IT HAS ONLY 11,883 ACTUAL MILES ON IT. IT IS POWERED BY A HD TWIN CAM 96 CUBIC INCH (1584CC) COUNTERBALANCED V TWIN. IT IS FUEL INJECTED WITH A 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION. BRAND NEW TIRES HAVE JUST BEEN INSTALLED ON THE BIKE. TWO KEYS ARE INCLUDED.
IT HAS NO SCRATCHES, DENTS, OR DINGS . THE BIKE RUNS AND DRIVES GREAT. IT STARTS RIGHT UP AND SHIFTS VERY SMOOTHLY.

or have i become too cynical? (is that even the right word for it?)

The Ninja at $2999 I can believe but no one pays $9000 for any Harley surely Bucky? ;D

I dunno... I paid $2900 for my 2006 HD last year from CL. It happens. I would at least call if interested. It might be a dealer or bank that got it back and is trying to sell it off for what is left. In my case it was a repo...  8)

Don't know about the Ninja, but that's about an average price for the HD around here. There are quite a few ads in the 8-10k range but noticably more in the 10-12k range, with occasionals higher than that. Sportys seem to run 5-8k...

The ninja is a scam. No doubt. 2999 is that magic amount the scam listings always use...and that bike is twice that new.

The Harley probably not a scam? Seems about right but a little on the low side.

More like 3x.  It's a scam.

We get ads like that in Hawaii all the time.  They never have phone numbers.  I think somebody is doing that and using a bogus e-mail address just to bug someone else.  Maybe not, maybe they ARE scams.  You know, send payment via Western Union or something like that.

I went to CL in South Carolina to see if I could find duplicate ads.  While I was looking I found what looks like a sweet deal on a Kz1000 - wish I could find one in Honolulu for that price!

http://charlotte.craigslist.org/mcy/1448695707.html

The person posting the ad called it a ZX.  Doesn't know his bikes I guess.

I watched a show on the crime channel last week about a guy who'd advertise a set of wheels and tires really cheap for cash only, then set the potential buyer up to get mugged by an accomplice. Apparently it worked well a couple of times, but the last time, the buyer tried to pull out his gun, so the mugger shot him dead. Very nasty. Cheers, Terry. ;D

The guy with the Ninja might just need to make some mad cash to pay off a loan. I'd say worth a call.

Asking too much for that Harley. I'd give him 5K tops. Blue book be damned, that's all it's really worth.

There are a lot of spammers out there but also genuine bargains. I wanted a Harley purely because I had never owned one. When I was looking (4 years ago) Harleys were still fetching a premium price. new would have run me $20K easily and used were goiing for not much less. I found one in a local paper with low miles, loaded with extras for $7500. He even threw in two helmets, a jacket and a bike cover! A couple of weeks ago in the SC craigslist a '71 CL175 barn find for $300. I wasn't quick enough, damn! Last summer in the Asheville c list there was a 305 for $200, running! Doesn't hurt to look.

There are some good bargains out there if you can catch them. I repeatedly missed out on scramblers. 2 weeks ago I got mine, '69 cl350 (left over '68 K0). Really good shape for a few hundred. Guy's wife needs a new knee. They just lost their insurance. He sold it so she could at least have a decent brace until things get better for them job wise. It does happen. This is the 3rd bike I've gotten at a song compared to what I should have paid.

Yep, bargains still happen. I bought my Laverda 750 recently from a guy who's marriage had broken down and was in financial trouble, so he had his friend advertise it on the Aussie Defence department "Intranet", and I was alerted to it within 24 hours of it being posted. I bought the bike, in brilliant condition, for less than half the price of the cheapest one that I've seen advertised.

I did have several telephone conversations with him though, and I felt that he was an honest, decent guy, so I went ahead, and I'm very happy with my "new" bike. Apart from the example I previously posted, a friend of mine in Oregon told me that "Craigs List" was often used by sellers who'd been kicked off EBay for being crooks, so I guess I'm saying that it's important that anyone exercise a modicum of caution when you see a really cheap item on CL, so as not to get burned. Cheers, Terry. ;D
