Hey from PA...
« on: November 15, 2009, 07:00:02 PM »
... just learned to ride and needed a winter project. Picked up a '75 CB750F for $200.00, this is my first bike (apart from some mopeds I've had in the distant past) and its a total piece of crap. Currently tearing it down. This is all new territory for me, I have owned several BMW 2002's so, I'm somewhat mechanically inclined. I'm sure I'll be in need of many answers, looking forward to it.

Welcome. Post a pic, even in its current condition. You can have a before/after post when you're done with the work. Good luck.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Here is a pic, I think. Just giving it a try.
Picked it up yesterday, its a total piece of crap. Got it for near nothing.
Got it stripped down to frame and motor, now, how do I get that motor out???

You have a bit of work, do a search there are a lot of various tips on pulling the motor.  In the present condition you may just want to remove the tank put something soft on the floor and just turn it on it's side.

Got the motor out, there's a load of thick, bright red stuff in the cylinders any ideas?

Is it rusty gritty feeling or is it some sort of oil? Someone may have poured Marvel or ATF in there.

A long road ahead of you, but it can be an awesome bike, you should find all you need for answers to your questions here.. Its a good place. Searching is your quickest way to answers. Not sure about the red stuff, but it could just be rust mixed with the oil.. Tho some one will answer I am sure.

Best of luck..
