I replaced a king/queen seat that came on my CB750K1 with a seat from a CB750K7. It was a chore since the K1 opens to the right and the K7 opens to the left.
I cut the hinges from the K1 and then cut the hinges and seat lock from a K7 frame. I then welded the new hinges and seat lock on the K1.
It worked OK. I got the seat positioned back a little too far, about a 1/2 inch gap between seat and tank. But it was nice to have a seat lock. I had to add about a 1/4 inch of rubber to the seat blocks since the seats seemed to sit at different heights.
I don't know if it was my fault or not but the I had to take the left side cover off to open the seat all the way.
The new seat looked good and rode fine. The ironic thing is that I ended up keeping the K7 and now need the seat, but I found a used K4 seat for the K1, so I have to cut and re-weld all the hinges again! O well, a good winter project for up here in the north tundra.
So it can be done.
