project fuzzycycle is done. new pics 25 January
« on: November 18, 2009, 01:07:18 AM »
well now that it's all buttoned up i decided to do a little build log. i started out with a stock, but decent running k6 motor in a solid but crusty k4 frame. i tore the bike down nearly 2 years ago now to do a "quick re-paint and a few cosmetics"  YEAH RIGHT! it ended up being pretty much a total rebuild with a new harness, new (to me) cylinders and pistons with brand new rings, engine gaskets and seals, new clutch springs, pained/polished motor. new fork tubes, seals and dust boots with the sliders getting polished. a new stainless steel piston in the rebuilt caliper with a speed bleeder installed. wheel bearings front and rear, new tubes, new brake pads up front and shoes in the rear, stainless braided brake lines with a new oem hard line going to the caliper. new oem intake boots, airbox rubbers, honda carb kits and 122.5 main jets. i blasted and painted the frame after wayne and i installed one of Ilbikes' (gordon) frame kits. i painted blasted and painted the tank, installed a new gas cap (oem) new petcock (also oem) i got some really sweet looking side cover emblems from a member here as well. i also did a new regulator/rectifier (thanks to electrosport) and the afore mentioned wiring harness which a fellow sohc4 member gave me. i topped it all off with a new airtech seat and upholstery pan. the first pic is the k4 a week before i started tearing it down, pearl harbor day 2007. new, outside pics to follow as soon as i get my camera back from repair.

Motor looks nice Bucky, I'm sending you my 650 motor, just email me when it's all nice and shiny. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

i'm going to get a 2 part clear that will work with the acrylic lacquer thats on the bike now and put it over the paint thats on there now, after wet sanding of course. the frame...............well i'm NOT taking the bike back apart anytime soon so the paint on the frame will have to stay. all in all, i'm really pleased with the way this motorcycle runs. nice and crisp sounding, great throttle response too. only other thing that needs to be done is to paint/mount my viper fairing too.

the top end in 5th is ALOT stronger than it was before. 115mph the last time i looked down, little faster before getting smart and dropping my speed by half  ;)

That is moving - I'll do it for just a few seconds running up through the gears, but no way would I want to hold that kind of speed. On a vintage bike, it feels twice as fast to me. As I get older the thoughts of chains, oil lines, deer, dogs, and troopers all come to mind. Now back in my youth........I once made a 12 mile run on the interstate averaging 95 on my 1973 CB350 twin - all while screaming along at 9,500 rpm.......I beat my best friend's R5 350 Yamaha and another's GT380 Suzuki by more than 1 minute to the Hardees where we'd agreed to meet for after-school burgers and shakes. Oh the glory at 15!

You need to come get your helmet......

Glad your bike is finally on the road, I know it was a frustrating build for you.

Enjoy the throttle-induced smiles :)

well, i think i might have one of the early 750k cams, it's in another thread asking opinions on whether it looks like it's one with more duration or not. i'm trying my hand at lengthening the bolt holes on the cam sprocket tomorrow (actually later today)i'll be sure to mark where dead center is before starting to remove metal. i have put the locked up motor into a spare frame with a tweaked neck area, so i can bolt up the 4 into 2 pipe, cut off the mufflers and try my hand and fabbing up my own homebuilt 4 into 4 since i cant afford one of benji's beautiful 4 into 4 setup. i'm also going to bead blast the paint off of a spare top triple and start polishing it along with the handlebar clamps. painting the headlight bucket and the viper fairing then mounting them along with the new headlight ring i got when i first started this project. i'm keeping busy with all the little things now that i have it running so good, this should keep me going until i can get it registered (got to pay the personal property tax and late fees first). i'm also going to touch up the header where it got scratched up installing it (i'll mask the frame rather than remove the exhaust) i wonder what i'm going to do now that this project is done. anyone need any work done?  ;D :D ;D :D

Bucky your ride looks great! The silver and blue combo really stands out, anyone can paint a frame black (I should know, mine is powdercoated black ;)) you should be proud. I look foward to you posting some full bike pics soon.

cute little orange marmalade kitty you have there, one of my favourite marking/color patterns, right behind calicos and siamese.

and i want to thank you all for the kind complients on my color combo. i really agonized over what colors to paint it before i finally pulled the trigger and second guessed myself for 6 months afterwards  :D i'm not happy with the type of paint i used but when i re-do it (when i build the big motor) i'll strip it all back down to bare metal and paint it with a good quality (house of kolor maybe) paint, same colors just better paint. and i may paint those honda emblems onto the tank instead of decals next time as i'm practising with an airbrush on an old car hood when i get bored.

new pics. until i can afford a decent hide, i am using some "leather" i stripped off of a broken office chair. when i get the nice hide, i'll pay someone to stitch up a nice cover for me. until then this will have to do. it looks better than just the plain multi colored jute type foam and is way more comfortable than riding on the hard, uncovered fiberglass. the paint goes on the seat/tail tomorrow, silver, just like the side covers and tank. this is airtech seat #CB75021 and upholstery pan #CB75021UP. all the hinges and latch all fit up really nicely on my k4 750 amd the upholstery pan is a sweet fit on the seat/tail. you can see scraps of the foam i ended up with, it's the perfect density after my long search for affordable and comfortable padding.
