Hey...

Nice work cleaning that engine up.  I have my engine out and I'm ready to do the same thing (clean and paint).

I was considering using an engine stand... How did you clean underneath with the engine on the dolly?

I'd like more details as you go through with your project.

Thanks, Scott

Hey Scott, I was a Bearcat! My folks are from Marathon right up route 81. We'll have to get together for a ride when I finish my bike in 10 years!  ;D I just washed the top half on the dolly and then carefully turned it over onto an old 6lb. carpet pad. Worked fine.

Engine looks great! I'm also about to do the same to mine. I think I'm going to try to rig something up to bolt it onto my "car engine" stand.

Great to see some upstate NY'ers on the board! Let alone someone from Binghamton. I've seen a few CB's riding around the Binghamton area the past few years I've owned mine. Glad to see some are a part of this board. Maybe a ride is in order when spring finally rolls around.

You got it! A ride is in order!

silly question but...did you replace the the old painted bolts with the new stainless bolts one at a time?

Looks VERY sharp nice job!

One at a time. Took about an our with a good impact driver. A must have tool. Be forewarned, some of the rocker covers will not fit on a 550 with allen bolts. I have to order panheads for those tight spots. I ordered the kit from stainless cycle online. $30 shipped.

Here is the engine all painted up with a stainless bolt set installed. Time to get it back in the frame!

Wow, I love this too!
what did you use to clean the engine? did you use spray paint? where did you get a set of stainless engine bolts?
Sorry for a lot of questions but I really do like how it turned out and I might copy yours ::)

Degreaser and beer to clean the engine (the beer goes in my tank.) Rattlecan Rustoleum Engine paint. Stainlesscycle engine bolts from their online site.
