any Husker Du fans here?
« on: November 24, 2009, 12:06:55 AM »
i've been listening to AND playing on the guitar lots of their stuff lately. the band never really had great commercial success though they were (in my opinion) one of the most inportant bands of the 80's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C3%BCsker_D%C3%BC    i was lucky enough to see them on both their Candy Apple Grey and Warehouse : Songs and Stories tours.

notice the sound "clipping" in the video, they were so loud that the audio equipment couldnt handle the sound. many many great memories have been brought back after not listening to these guys for so long.......almost like an acid flashback  :D

big fan.
never saw them live, although i was around the scene in the later years ('85 onwards)...just missed 'em for whatever reason.
saw sugar and bob mould solo, grant hart with his solo thing, each a few times.  ate at a place where greg cooked a while back in minneapolis.

they were so loud, bob's hearing is (was?) toast.  heard a story from a friend who knew some people in the sugar camp.  bob had to sleep in his own room on tour, with the tv tuned to snow, full blast (back when you could tune to an 'off' channel), to drown out the ringing ears from tinnitis so he could sleep.

While I don't listen to this style of music much anymore back around 1979-83 I saw them countless times in the local clubs around town before I drifted away from the club scene.  Loud, yeah it was loud. ;D  If you like them check out the Replacements, another local band from the same era that had a bit more success as well as notoriety. ;D  Or my favorite local band from that era, The Suburbs, that also had a bit of success.  These guys were great to see live, they were weird and wacky, the ultimate party band.  Your are making me have flashbacks to a wild drunken time in my life. Thanks. ;D

Your Avatar and Husker du are quite a spectrum. Ive been down loading and listening to some Janes Addiction lately. This site has a limited amount of members but the spectrum of live shows available is nuts! If you cant join now try in a few hours.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

i DO have an eclectic range of music i love dont i?  from pipe bands to the sex pistols. i saw the grateful dead 178 times between 81 and 95, i had a lime green mohawk while playing in a surf/punk band in the early-mid 80's and now i'm playing a bunch of bluegrass standards with a group of folks from my neighborhood.

I saw Husker Du at the Hub Ballroom at the University of Washington on the Warehouse Songs and Stories tour. I believe Mathew Sweet opened up for them. Before the show, I managed to get some one on one time with Grant Hart as we rode up the elevator together. Really cool guy. Definitely one of my all time favorite shows.

I too have a pretty eclectic range of music. My screen name on most of the other forums is "Bluesforchallah".
