A giant spark from a brake light wire? If that's the case, you've got a major electrical fault mate...........  ::)
That was my whole point. I didn't do any of the wiring ... PO did ... and left it like that.
It's a project bike so I am not riding it.

Well, to make it right, the best thing you can do is buy a whole new wiring harness and ditch the rats nest that the PO left you with. "Giant sparks" don't ordinarily come from brake light wires, so the best thing you can do is start from scratch with a new harness.  Cheers, Terry.  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Just remember Terry size is all relative.  I mean, someone who thinks it is necessary to put a 350 chev into a motorbike would think a 3" d!<k is huge :P.  If Jay Ace hasn't actually seen a large spark maybe a spark thrown by a 12v wire to earth would be "giant".

This thread could go on for ever or until you throw up. :o

How about this:
I was a mechanic at a dealership.
The first Honda 250 scrambler arrived and was a beautiful metallic red.
It was there for 3 or 4 hours, then a person came in and took it for a test ride.

He did not come back by dark.

The next morning when I came into work the motorcycle was in the shop by the big roll up door.
It was hardly recognizable as a motorcycle.
He wrapped around a palm tree at around 100mph.

A week or two later the guy walks in the shop on crutches!!! WOW
All the mechanics were amazed he was still alive.

I actually like that bike, and I love the seat, the original 400F seat looked horrible! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Can't say I like the style of that "Goldwing" seat but it sure is comfortable.

That's it mate, put a different seat on it for local riding, but keep that sofa for long trips, and your butt will thank you! Cheers, Terry. ;D

You know what I was going to sell that seat but I think your right, I'm going to keep it.

I plan to participate in that carry Godzilla around the world ride so it will come in handy.

I took one of those big, ugly albeit comfy seats and made a comfy solo seat for one of my 400 fours...larry

That works with the overall look of your bike.

If I didn't see that you are in PA I'd swear someone in England built that bike, nicely done.

I recognize that seat cover! I had a seat and sissy bar w/ the same pattern. I did the very same thing for a Dirtbag challenge build. I made it fit well on the cut down seat pan and adapted the matching sissy bar and pad. Ultimately went with a sprung solo seat.

When I bought my CX500 that had been sitting in the PO's garage for the last 14 years after he fell off it, obviously I couldn't start it, but the owner told me that while it was really quiet at idle, once you "give it the berries", it had "quite the bark!"

Once I took it home and installed a new battery, cleaned the carbs etc, I fired it up and went for a ride. I "gave it the berries" and sure enough, there was a loud noise coming from under the engine, with no real increase in power or speed. Hmmnnnn.

I pulled the exhaust system off and discovered that the "H Box" (that joins the header pipes together) was rusted out, hence that wonderful "Bark" that the PO was waffling on about, ha ha! I welded the holes up and it was much quieter, and probably a bit more powerful too. ;D

Maybe not the worst thing a PO has done but certainly dumb. PO decided to paint the engine of my CB350F but didn't want any over spray on the cam cover!! Yep silver painted cams.

My CB750A had the brake pad glued on with some sort of gasket from a can all over the back side. Also the points cover was glued on the same way because of one missing screw (or lots of rain? The cover was all banged up), with lots of gasket residue flying around in there. And since gasket from a can worked so well on those things, it was also used on one of the carbs, which I guess was leaking! Gasket residue in there too...

The first CB550 that I owned (inherited actually, it was literally found behind a pile of wood in a barn...) didn't have any fork seals in the forks, but instead had tightly wound strips of burlap sack stuffed under the (cracked) dust boots.  These soaked up water and ruined the fork tubes with rust.  This was before the days of digital cameras, so no pictures taken.
