Do the early model CB 750 have a different Vin plate than the later stamped ones, My brother came across a CB out in western Nebraska and I asked him to look at the Vin plate on the neck to tell what year it was and he said it did not have one and he said there were no rivits where the plate should be, I'm having him go back next week to write down the Vin. I thought they all had the same Vin ,ID.......

If I remember right, the mid 69 I looked at had the plate on the side where we usually find the stamped vin. I don't think it had a date of manufacture on it.

I will double check a 69 frame I got but I think it was a stick on foil tag because a section of it is missing. Believe the number is also stamped into the frame neck.

So the first models did have the stick-on foil type with out the riveted plate.. Does any one know when they changed them? I'm just trying to figure if the bike is a 69-70 model or a later one without a metal Vin plate that has been ripped off, and if it would be worth it to trek to Nebraska and look at it, by brother will not be able to get back out there for another month on his delivery route and he's really not going to to go to great links to research it for me. His attitude is I found found you one it's up to you to go get it..... I will see him today and see if he remembers anything else about the bike that might be of any use.....

The really early ones had the horn on the left side, didn't they? That'd be a much better indicator than the VIN plate which may have been removed at some point in the last 40 years.

My diecast K0, build date 02/70, has a VIN plate.

My 11-69 bike has the normal plate.

Check my torn what I "thought" was a foil plate on a 69 frame and when I got the bifocals working right noticed a small rivit still attached on on side----My Mistake

Does that bike still have a motor in it ? That vin # on it would be really helpful to you as you assess its value as it may be original or it could just be a later drop in. Original early engine would be a major +.

yes engine is in the frame , no exhaust pipes,of course no side covers, when I asked my brother the color of the tank he said it was "rust color" so I think after the new year I will take a trip and take a look

I know I totally gave my brother the third degree, but he just doesn't get excited about these things as we do, he said the last thing I needed is another "doner cycle"

so his eye witness account is something to be desired...
