Gidday Noob....I can suggest only the supplier that I use which is David Silver (in UK). Their shipping is fast and cheap. They sell the cheap and nasty points but also stock genuine HONDA parts at 15.00 British pounds per set.

I found the package that my points came in, they are made by Sudco .. Are those any good or should I order the 37$ factory honda points from the nearby stealership? Other brands that I can trust?

Hey what about taking the points out and upgrading to a Dyna electronic ignition?

You should check out hondaman's ignition don't have to change coils that way and you have the points to fall back on should it ever fail

You don't have to change coils with Dyna either. I have used their coils but only because the OEM ones had cracked and ruined spark plug HT cables that are not replaceable: Dyna coils use auto style "distributor cap" terminals so you can easily change the HT cables.
Anyway I would use the HM ignition if I wanted to eliminate periodic points adjustment again. The points are still there but do not get pitted and don't need regular adjustment. You set timing once, then every year you grease the cam a bit and check the timing - usually still spot on. Plus if the electronics fails a Dyna leaves you walking. The HM unit can be bypassed simply which leaves the original ignition circuit unchanged and you keep riding.

I too learned my lesson with Daiichi points.  Our friends at parts n more are not very forthcoming with the issue and are not very accomodating on returns either.  I could not find enough adjustment on the points plate to get the timing set correctly.  Went to the local Honda dealership and put $54 down on some TEC points.  Installed TEC points on the original TEC points plate with new Daiichi condensers.  Just like Hondaman said, they set up perfectly with plenty of room for timing adjustment.  Now all I need is a Hondaman ignition.

I don't know if anyone has noticed this , but the Nippon Denso points/ backing plate/advance unit are quite different to the tec version, I had the same issues when using 2 new sets of few points, I had loads of problems due to the different brands, the ND points turned out to be the best of all of them and the easiest to get spot on. I had to use the second hand points with the insulators from a defunct set of points to get them working, been 12 months now with no issues

Oddly enough, when I still used points, I used the daiichi points and never had an issue with setting them. Used a couple sets of them. Maybe the quality has gone to pot in the last few years.

I recently found that Japan is also making the Daiichi points now (they used to be only Chinese). I just got a set of these Japanese units this week, will be attempting to install them on the next 750 I can, to see if they are any better.

HM, have you had any luck with these points?  I recently bought a set of points advertised as made in JAPAN from EBAY and wish I had paid a little more attention to the little logo (noob mistake).  I believe what Im getting are Daiichi points made in Japan. The bike has Chinese points right now that are in pretty rough, pitted shape.

Good luck with the snow.  We need it to stop raining.

I haven't had time to try mine yet. Give yours a try and report back here? The Daiichi ones made in Japan are the ones I am about to try.

I used the Japanese Daiichi points and the timing is super advance. No rotation room anymore.  I have the HM ignition and the bike is running great but it might be running hot - need to check the plugs.

Where did you find the ND points?

I have a 72' CB350K4 & I've carefully filed the low mileage ND orig. points and they are good; where can I find ND or TEC or KOKUSAN ? I imagine that there are no real new points sources anymore...do I just have to try ebay & hope to restore good used points, or do you think somebody, somewhere may have a "secret stock" ?

Honda still sells the TEC, but many shops have been observed to be selling counterfeit DAIICHI in their place, with labelled plastic bags and all! So, take a look at your local Honda shop, look closely at the points plate before paying for it. The TEC logo is plainly visible. Although pricey, if you are running one of my Ignitions they will likely be the last set you'll ever have to buy. ;)

I blew up the photo and it is hard to make out the logo on the points but I can tell you it is in the same location as Daiichi and the long wear block made of plastic sure looks like it too although the ignition plate has enlongated slots but it looks undersize to me the thickness however looks better than other aftermarket plates

Very interesting thread. Explains why I've had to grab the grounding arm with needle nose pliers and bend it down slightly in order to get the timing adjustments to fall in line. (Lots of fun to do while the bike is running!) Two summers ago I ordered a new TEC points plate assembly from Honda and it was a night and day difference!

I just installed a set of the Japanese-made Daiichi points on a K7 engine. They timed up OK for idle, but added +3 degrees advance at full RPM (2500+). This won't hurt the engines, but is indicative that the geometry is still off a little bit. It's a far cry better than the Chinese-made Daiichi ones.

But...the cosmolene is a real PITA to get off these points! I ended up using a points file dipped in acetone and then lacquer thinner, just to get the sticky stuff off. It can stop my Transistor Ignition from running, because it is a good insulator, while the points will still run (kind of...) if just connected to the coils directly. After I finally got them clean, they worked fine with the Ignition box.

I got K&S points and Diiaachi condensers from Rob at Cycle-Recycle.  I didn't see K&S mentioned in the thread.  Anyone have any experience with them?  It sounds like the Diiachi condensers might be ok.  I don't think Robb would be selling junk.

I've had several sets of the Daiichi condensors on a 400F and 2 different 750s now for a year. They work OK and are readily available. They don't fit quite as nicely as the ND or TEC types, not having the little anti-rotation notch on their brackets, but they do fit.
