Anyone else decide to ruin a weekend and hang xmas lights?
« on: November 28, 2009, 03:00:14 PM »
I don't get it. They all worked last year. So I spent hours swapping bulbs. It is a cruel world in xmas lighting. I give up. How the heck can I figure out which bulb is the culprit. I started to cut sections out and butt connect good sections from other strands. I'm begginning to feel like Chevy Chase. I eventually made a pile of broken lights and did an "I hate these lights" dance on top of them. If I didn't have little kids, there would be no lights.

Oh brother do I feel your pain. We have a thirty foot spruce that we have always decorated, just brutal. Those damn lights are impossible.

Last year I put my foot down and I no longer hang from my toenails climbing around that thing.

Now I feel like the Grinch.  ;)

Why not invest in the type that do not plunge you into darkness if one bulb goes.
I have been assisting the Riecks putting up their trees this weekend, that's somthing new for me as living on my own for the last 25 years, I've never bothered with a tree or decorations.
Due to having to work over the festive season, I've never been home for Christmas but this year is different, think I'll buy a little tree and some lights. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Get the LED strings and save the frustration of messing with replacement bulbs or bulbs that plug in.  I actually think the extra initial expense is worth it.
(BTW...I too have done the "I hate these Lights" dance, but made sure the kids were not watching  ;D )

We replaced all the twenty-five odd strings of lights with led's and tried leaving them in this big ole tree. By the time the next season rolled around they were mostly blown away from the outside of the limbs towards the trunk, alot of the bullbs were half full of water and the wiring had several breaks.

One year & I was back to fixing everything..... just junk. I hope the quality is better now.

Bah humbug.  ;D

+1 on the LED lights.  They've held up extremely well and it's like I have 100's of tiny lasers on my front porch.

I swear that you can see the glow from them 2 blocks away.
