cb550 My first road bike resto.
« on: October 03, 2009, 09:25:12 PM »
Hello Guys I will past a few pics of my resto as I go along, pretty happy so far doing frame Came up a treat.Doing frame and wheels  first then tackling the motor and electrics last.

I am loving it so far, Still not sure what to do with the motor yet?? to cam it or leave it, and also the pipes. At this stage I thinking a standard resto. With a few hop ups such as handle bars and shock up grades to make it more fun to ride.

Any way here are the first pics of many to come

You're seat looks great! Did you use a stock seat cover? If so, where did you get it? Did you re-use the existing foam or did you put new on?

Good progress.

Hey seat cover is a cheaper one from David silver Spares, I used the the old foam and stuffed alittle bit of teddy bear stuffing in the seat in places and around the edge front and back to get it to sit right!!!

The only parts I am really struggling to find is side covers in the rounder triangle size. I have won a left hand one on ebay but the guy never responded to my question of freight so I think that will be a my first purchase on ebay I can't for!!! So the hunt goes on!!! Anyone have a set in there shed as I am going to be painting them so filler or repair doesn't worry me!!!

Also some headlight chrome ears in good condition!!!

Cheers
Tom

If you are still searching for your side covers, go here.

http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/L-P-M-Plastic-Motorcycle-Parts__W0QQ_armrsZ1

They don't list them on their main web site, but here they are on their ebay page. I got a r/h from an ebay sale, finished up paying nearly $70 AUD. Wrong colour & no decal, but is NOS part. Perfect condition.
These reproductions look ok to me.
Good luck & keep up the good work.

I will be selling my side covers.  They are original....no badges, and need painting, but no cracks.

But my bike is a 1977 550K.

Wish I would have known you wanted stock headlight ears.  I tossed mine!  the chrome on the outside was mint, but surface rust on the inside (no big deal).  Second thought...I'll have to go look tomorrow. ???

Oh well, have some other stock stuff i don't want, that I will be selling at some point....My bike is a full on cafe project, so very little stock stuff will be kept.

Looking good so far! Keep up the good work. Please add a little narrative along with the pictures.
We all would like to hear the story. The seat came out looking great!
By the way...what year is the bike? I know it's a 550F.
I want to die like my grandfather did...in his sleep and not screaming like the passengers in his car!
