excess noise? cam chain tension adjustment...
« on: November 22, 2009, 06:31:06 PM »
ok I got my motor back in the bike today and started her up for a few minutes to do the heat cycle and it seems to be very noisy at lower rpms where you can listen to it run. wish I had a camera that could record sound but it seems to be very noisy doesn't sound that way past idle but it seems excessive IMO

also the factory manual says to start the engine let idle and release the cam chain tensioner lock nut / bolt  and let it adjust while running??
I've never heard of this before, but ??

I had a suzuki rmz-450 dirt bike and I wouldn't have dreamt of doing that while running...but it was noisy too...

any help is much appreciated, thanks

I'm guessing it's a SOHC/4, but pray tell us which model and year, sir.....
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

If its a 750, chain is adjusted with engine off. Its a 500/550, while running. If something else, don't know.

Does it sound like a bucket of marbles? Does the sound disappear when the clutch is pulled in?  If so it is the typical SOHC4 clutch plate/primary chain slap racket.  The later 750s have some improvements in the clutch mechanism to help reduce noise.  The smoother the engine is running the less the noise.  Carb synchronization will help.
