Bill, I was told a 0.4 needle jet was not available before June & with the situation in Japan that might even be pushed back. I understand there may still be 10 different needles but one leaner that might help is 5DP39. I have an old jet needle chart that's barely legible and it shows the 5DL31 as being a rich one. That was the needle most used on the street I believe.
We got the 5DP39 needles today along with 27.5 and 30 pilots. Thanks Big Jim and Brian @ Livengood Motorsports.Sprocket on @ couple nights ago,got new chain today,Jim again! Gotta install jets and reassemble 29's.Didn't get any stacks, will check tomorrow.
Dyno Sat? We hope so!,Bill

Great update guys, thanks.  Can't believe all the issues with the CV's, but some masterful work seems to have sorted those out.  Special thanks to JW for the educational post.  Starting to get a feel for what it takes to make a great drag motor.

Wow. i have learned more about CV's reading this thread than anywhere else. Great posts and good to hear its all coming together finally.
You have a great crew there Sam.... ;)

Yea I saw you got the needles, good. I hope those help because I think the 0.4 needle jets might be too small for that engine??  Re stacks I have a guy that will make what I want (30mm long & full radius inlet) for these smoothbores and will make that transition at the carb disappear. However the guy is really busy & I'm not sure how long it will take.  >:(

Carbs have been jetted with the new air jets
#4 air jet passage was big and went in and welded the inside of the passage
re machined and drilled and reamed. The new jet is in.
will start to polish the bores and slides after I get over the flu. This sucks being sick
and the bad part about owning a business is that I cant call in sick............

Dragracer,
I'd guess 10-12 hp more lost than with the clutch equivalent for this motor. That's not where our problems are. Around 7 horsepower and 15 ft/lbs of torque at 3 grand is why we don't leave the starting line quickly.

Bill,
Don't remember the exact ET, but around high 10.6's are being run in Texas. If I went for the 14:1 compression in my motor, I could be running the same area. Their bike doesn't repeat well. I run less compression to allow me to drive back to the pits and control the oil temperatures better. Give me 2 more gears and I'll blow away that record... (someday  ;D)

Jon,

I wasn't thinking about the convertor on this bike bieng a problem at all. I was kind of curious as to the amount of power a similarly built hand clutch motor would make at the rear wheel. I feel a new hand clutch project bike coming on based on the equivalent specs of the Samauto motor ;D. I've got a K model thats been sitting for years and i'm now in need of a street ET bike- i'm giving my GSXR750 to my neice and need a replacement so the K might just get a makeover.  8)

Yes on the sprocket, who knows, sometimes it didn't seem to respond to the changes, last week change, get expected result.Came home and am going to investigate. ???
Yesterday It had me scratching me head! Igntion problems, but when did they start?
Saw 79.98 RWHP w/40% humidity. ::)Bill
It did not seem to like the leaner needles,BUT?
It did not like leaner mains,122.5-125 worked best.
Bet I installed mains 10-12 times,and needles and c/position @ least 6-8 times. ::)
Brian's awesome, above and beyond call of duty.
More next Sat, providing carbs ready:CV's,$$,and kitchen pass! ;)

Frank, the specs in our motor were based on a motor that Mike built for Art (sparty) a few years back.
It wasn't a race motor but it produced 94bhp at the wheel and ran a high 11 off the trailer.
It was much the same as our bike in the weight department but I'm not sure how much Art weighed in at.
