I am hoping to hear something from Dyna this week about the Dyna 2000 that came off of the Sam Auto
and also my own Dyna 2000 is getting checked out

get that sorted and back to Bills to install the 2000, change to the 50 tooth sprocket and some minor

jet changes and its back to the track

will keep all posted

Be calling you about the MSD system frank.
Sam, can we run that type of ignition?

I use the MSD / MC3 ignition on my SOHC with the Dyna S ignition and Dyna coils. I also use it on my small tire Kaw. It has a low side and high side limiter but no capabilities of internal advance or retard. You can however add external components to control timing. This might be a deal breaker if you can't just set your timing statically. They do make the MC4 which has numerous functions includung internal timing ramps, auto shift by rpm, etc...  You might want to visit the MSD website and download their instruction manual for review. Its a great ignition controller but the price is higher than the Dyna stuff but it is an all in one box for "all motor" applications. Your other option is the DYNA 4000 but it is also limited because it does not use internal timing controls but has plugs for external devices to be added.

Ding Ding Ding, give the man a cigar. Sorry Sam I didn't want to be the first to say it, but that's exactly what this smells like.

This company has been a round a long while and apparantly continues to replace parts N/C, but when people don't have faith in their products anymore and buy elsewhere, they hopefully will get the message.

In the meantime, it's a bloody shame. OK rant complete.  >:(

Dynatech said there's no way that it's a problem with their unit, which I find hard to believe.

The problem moves between cylinders and between coils.  Last week cylinder 1 was barely running, now 1 is running but cylinder 3 wasn't - then it moved to cylinder 2 (at least they're on the same coil...).

With all the components testing out OK, it's hard for me understand where else the problem could lie besides the dwell function in the 2000 box itself.
Take care,
David

And there is only 1 12V wire that powers the whole system so it cant be from the bikes wiring harness
I have had on going problems with my 2000 and a standard Dyna S. All new components and bought with in a couple of years
I put the old one on that I have had for 20 years and it runs like a champ.

the China syndrome hits again guys.

I should have both systems back from being tested by Dyna so we shall see

whats MSD,s number?

I've only had one MSD fail and it was an old MC2 unit that was on my Kaw when i bought it. I've sent a few MSD car units back for testing and it usually cost more to ship than the actual repairs themself.

I'm just not a fan of the Dyna ignition controllers. I was given 2- Dyna 4000's removed as working units when they were replaced with Schnitz Pro Series 2 boxes. Those Dyna 4000 boxes  will likely sit in the closet until who knows when...... Ummm, maybe i'll try one on my next project???????????

Hard to beat an MSD box. But remember, you will have to static time the bike without adjustability electrically. I say go for it guys.

I recall reading about a few Dyna S failures about a year ago. There was even a poll started. Thankfully, my old Gerex still works great; too bad they aren't made anymore.

still no word on the status of the 2000,s as of today 6-12-11 (Mine and Sams as I sent them both to have them tested at the same time) along with a set of
coils and my other dyna s

Brian is open but not sure about the dyno

I will call Larry at Dyna tech tomorrow to see if he knows anything and will let ya,ll know

I think it would be a good idea to go ahead and set the MSD box up but wait to see if the 2000 is going to perform

 Bill and his 12,s.........:)

Bill,
While waiting for Dyna results, could this be a good time to spend 2-3 hours and install the box that arrived? Motor stays in the frame. There's the 12's all season long!
Yes, I use MSD on my bikes. The MC1 is an analog circuit box, very dependent on voltage levels. MC-2 only slightly better than MC-1. You get near 11.0 volts and you'd better be charging up the battery. If the voltage dropped below 11, it would still start and run, but not rev over 5 grand. Digital MSD-3 boxes for bikes are out there for years; they will run fine at least 1 volt lower without problems. (~$530 new) Advance curves that you can make on your laptop? MC-4 (~$740 new) Used units are hundreds less. Dragbike.com classified ads sometimes have used ones; Ebay sometimes has them as well. Good support for problems from MSD. Vibrations are the only avoidable killers; units come with rubber mounts. You can get into corrosion issues over longer periods of time. Maintenance usually prevents/avoids that problem. Hundreds of MC-1’s still running all over the world. They outlast most race bikes...  Housings are the common place for added "traction control devices", not that we need that!

All it would cost would be boring...has Carrillo's!!

FYI for Bill and Sam. The wife and I took the 7 hour ride up to Maryland International Raceway for the 4th race in the MIR series. I qualified #6 in Top Sportsman with a 7.97 ET. I had Boo Brown in the first round of eliminations. I had lane choice due to being lower qualifier so i put him in the left lane(he prefers the right). He left first but i ran him down before the 1000 foot mark, passed him and rolled out of the throttle for the win.

That 3 wins for Team Sam Green against the legendary Boo Brown. Umm, unfortunately i went brain dead in the 2nd round and lost due to a very poor reaction time.
