Pops,
You won't run 1.9 60' times with that method. The throttle response is too slow for that method to give you that quick a 60' time. It will work, but with slower 60' times due to the lower rpm launch that that system will give you. It wasn't what Bill was trying unless he added a nitrous shot.

Heres the last 4 runs from yesterday. ;D

I decided if the bike won't become one with you,you must become one with the bike!(Grasshopper 2012) ;)
So I decided, hold rear brake only, stage, give it as much as it would take, very little,2000-2500 MAX,then when 2nd amber came on ,start to twist throttle, last amber, release brake, throttle WFO....for the most fun ride down the 1320,nothing like shifting just once and a bike that goes...with no hesitation.I changed the mains, went fatter obviously ;D,but decided to leave the needles where they were.Best combination on carb jetting so far.Bike likes 915 kit and 295 cam! 8) also,we still can advance cam, that's right,I degee'd it to stock spec and ran .008 in & .010 ex.Standard was .006/.006.I like to SEE,now we can advance and go back to .006 if we want! ::) Let's see advance cam, temp drops 10 degrees, dry air.......Valdosta 11.9xx! Yeh I know, consistency!!
But look at all the PB's it turned on last run!!!!! ;D Jon,for the first time I "FELT" it! It being what a properly running CB750A can do! Get the starts down and they may not like seeing Samauto show up!!! ;) WOW,finally we got a QUICK and CONSISTENT bike!!! Thanks to all who helped us achieve this, you know who you are!! Bill

Great job Bill!

My take is the cam. The 295 is better for the A. The 125-75 better for high rpms of 5 speeds.

How many guys can be on the pit crew?!  ;)

As many as it takes to lift the cooler full of soda, water  and gaterade off the back of Bills truck. Lol. Seriously, i'm sure the Sam Green Team would welcome you. The event coordinators don't set limits on pit crew size.

Specs: 295
Total Duration:
306° in   296° EX
Lobe Centers:
105°
Lift:
.390" IN   .360" EX
Lash:
.004" IN    .006" EX

125-70 .400" 262° 105° High performance street/road with big bore kit. 26 btc/56 abc .005"
            .375" 257° 104.5°

There is not much difference on paper. The big difference  is the DP cam is ground by Web which means the lift/duration #'s are meaningless (aren't even close to advertised) and the cam is relatively mild.
Specific cam information would have been good to know when the engine was being built. That thought also applies to engine displacement. It would have saved time, money and reduced frustration.

MR WEEKS : Not a quicker reaction time but a consistent reaction time with the shift light telling you the RPMS at the stall [ like a two-step ] with the rear brake locked = no creeping into a red light. My 400 cc Hondamatic has 2.500  60' times with a 26 HP motor with rear brake locked with left front brake lever to rear brake after I step hard on foot brake and hold with left lever = the throttle is then opened all the way open on stock worked over CV CARBS and I let go of lever on last yellow bulb .01 to .15 lights RT. [ the racers complain to track owners that I had a two step with such good lights = they lost the challenge and many rounds after that crying ] It has worked for me for the past 5 years with no failure.  I'll bring a 2010 BUSA down with this set-up and auto shift and let them boyz ride a BUSAMATIC  72" LONG NO-BAR BIKE that does not wheelie and goes straight down the track  GSX1300R  that will run 151+ mph at 9.20 tuned down ALL MOTOR all learned from working on BUSA MOTORS since 1999.

Pops, i'm about to put a shift minder and starting line control light on my no bar KZ. Hard to watch that tach or listen to the motor while concentrating on the tree.

Pops,
We've got a fix in the mail for Sam's bike at Valdosta. I too have run 400A's and 450A's since 1985. The stock motors didn't do much for me so I warmed them over. Learned what that motor liked. I went fancier with the hub of a '78 F 750 Comstar rear wheel mated to the rim on my '78 400A. That got me a factory appearing rear disc brake. A rear disc brake gets you the ability to use a line lock to launch the bike. That got me a lot of round wins. Too many round wins and rule changes happen. I was forced into running a 750A, because I couldn't otherwise run for money with a 7.5 second cutoff in the 1/8th mile track that was home for me. Learned how to make the bigger motor happy. Got the rule abandoned after one season when my 750A won the championship.
I'm a drag racer first, and a bracket racer second. I try to get the most out of my combination while still being consistent. We don't have to do what Bill's done to be successful. When you use "feel" it doesn't repeat well. It may be good enough to win on any given day, but it's a challenge. The bike is most consistent when you are at full throttle before the last yellow and you never change the throttle position as you go down the track. Leaving off of a button makes using a practice tree  more realistic. Bill and Sam are part time riders. They don't race weekly. Practice trees are all that they can use to stay sharp.
Sam is coming over to race probably for the last time in November. He's just looking for one win slip. Bill's giving Sam a bike that will be able to give him that win slip that he wants so badly. As Bill has found out, once you get the first round win, subsequent round wins aren't that much harder. Sam has never made an 11 second pass on a bike in the quarter mile. This November, he just might do that also. Lots of people have read the 120 page saga of Sam's efforts. I plan on being there at Valdosta to photograph Sam's best moment(s).  ;D

Pops, hard to watch that tach or listen to the motor while concentrating on the tree.

You've hit the nail on the head there Frank, that has been the problem at the last two events.
When the bike was breaking in at Rockingham, it wasn't a problem.
It was harder with the 295 cam and impossible with the 915 pistons last time out.
I dread to think what it is now like with big Jimmys modified converter added to the equation, Bill did well at Atlanta holding it in the sweet spot before launch. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
The line lock should solve this problem.
