First thing that strikes me from the data is that you let the oil temperature continue to climb pass after pass. Between Bill's three and Sam getting on the bike, you should have given the front of the motor some fan time. Nothing over 10 minutes. It would have dropped the oil temperature back to nearer "normal". Sam was right to let it cool off to get a better pass out of it.
Just a guess, but I don't think that the bike got it's normal warm up before the first pass. For the density altitude, I'd assume the second pass was the first one. Was the bike a little "cold" for the first run?
Frank is right about the consistency improvement that the bike needs. The reactions that Sam showed were impressive. Let's see him do that for a few more runs in a row and the practice will have been well worth it.
Sam, on a different topic - Can you legally deep stage your car in British drag racing? A racer's mind has one point that it wants to launch a vehicle. You've trained your mind to launch that bike well. Having a car that launches much slower than your Hondamatic will result in slower reaction times because it will take more time for it to go forward. Moving the front wheels forward on the starting line will improve the reaction time at the expense of the ET. You can dial your ET anywhere you want. Isn't it a good trade-off to improve reactions by a tenth + at the expense of the ET going a tenth + slower?  Just trying to make you more of a threat on both sides of the Atlantic... ::)

Did tell Sam to post the R/T's cause of what he did ...not me!  ;D Bill
I was mainly shaking it down for Sam. I knew he'd be racing it next couple events. With fan and more time in between ,times would have looked better. Next week ought to be fun! Bill

haha, the Panda was just a fill in Jon as I wasn't planning on coming over till next year.
I didn't try deep staging it but I did try leaning on the tree which resulted in a red light every time.
I only did it in free practice as it didn't matter about the red light, you still got your time.
Had I done it in normal qualifying, I'd have been at the bottom of the qualies.
Most of the cars I was up against were all autos with all sorts of electronic and a squirt if need be. >:(

Date line, 18th Oct 13. Commerce Dragway, Atlanta.
A cool evening, I've signed on and gone through technical inspection.
I then pull into the staging lanes for my first test pass.
I spotted the other bikes in lanes 5 and 6 and pulled across from lane 3 to join them.
As I approached the other riders, they all started making gestures like I should cut my throat. I immediately cut the motor and on looking down saw a rather large puddle of hot oil under the motor. Oh sugar. I had sprayed a line of oil about a foot wide for about 15 yards.
We quickly had a blanket wrapped under the motor before moving it so as not to contaminate any more of the lanes.
The track staff soon had the mess cleaned up which had been caused by an oil line bursting. My first failure on American soil, it was embarrassing as the bike had had a complete check over since its last outing last week.

Sam. :(

Date line, 19th Oct 13, reception lobby of hotel in Commerce Georgia.
I thought this was real funny.
Team mates Bill Benton Keith LeBlanc and myself are trying to settle our hotel bill.
Behind the counter, a receptionist is pumping our data into the computer overseen by her colleague named Dana.
Dana asks Bill, "wotch ya'll doing here" Bill replies that we are racing motorcycles at Commerce Dragway. Dana tells Bill that she is pleased to meet him as she has never met a racing motorcyclist. Bill tells her that it is me that is racing today and when she hears my English accent she throws a fit saying omg you sound like Rod Stewart. hahahaha (that's not the funny bit)
Dana then comes from behind the reception desk and asks her colleague to break away from the computer, get her camera phone and take a photograph of her with this English motorcycle racer. hahaha (that's not the funny bit either)
Dana then snuggled up to me and said......"make out that you LIKE ME". hahahahahahhahahahahahahhaahh Being a gentleman, I put my arm around her and we both smiled into her friends camera. haha Dana, you are a STAR.
Later in the day, we met up with some other people that had stayed at the hotel, it seems she had been telling everyone that left the hotel that she had had her photograph taken with me. hahahahahhhhhhah.
Dana, you are a SUPERSTAR and a lovely lady.

Calender Girl has transmission problems last time out. Are we putting the undercut tranny in before Bradenton? And are we going to finish up the air shifter installation?? It sure would help with consistency and ET.

Well with all the fun at the Hotel yesterday morning, I forgot to mention that the $10,000 Nostalgia event at Commerce Raceway was rained out.
I got in touch with friend Tim Houghland-Birchfield at 6pm who told us the event would be run today Sunday. It was rather sad as Tim had to work today and couldn't attend the re run.
The morning dawned bright and by 9am we were back at the track.
We were only allowed one practice pass and then had to figure out what times to dial for the first round.
We were called to the lanes just after 12 mid day and I drew the left lane against young gun Revvin Kevin Erler on his GSXR750.
I cut a killer light against Kev and with my handicap start of .86 of a second, Kevin went early by just one thousandths of a second to pull a red light in his haste to chase me down. Any racer would be suicidal loosing out by .001 of a second but Kevin would have lost anyway as he outran his dial in time. First blood to the old Honda.
3.15 pm saw us back in the pairing lanes for round 2. I was told I had a bye run as there was an odd number of riders and I was deemed to be the number 1 qualifier because I had had the fastest reaction time to the lights in round one, this meant that I didn't have to race anyone and automatically advanced to round 3. (money in sight. haha)
The good news was short lived when a rider dropped out and evened up the numbers. The draw was made and I couldn't have picked a worse person to race against, my facebook friend, Track and National Champion Jimmy cha cha Heisler.
I nailed Jimmy off the line but at the top end his bike was easily in front to send me home.
What a great event with great people. Many thanks to my team mate Bill Benton for making this happen. Pictures from the event to follow.

Sam, I love your reaction times since coming over this fall. If I read between the lines of gibberish, I think that you miss my limited help at the track. I wish you well in this adventure.

A reminder to others: Don't have someone else's computer save your login settings. You never know when it will come back to bite you! :o
