Great news on the beast coming to life!! Have taken the Thurs thru Sun off. Hopefully I'll have the lock-up clutch finished in time for some test and tune Thurs nite. Be sure to contact me when you start to the track. I live only 15 or so min from there. Lookin' good!

MR. HONDAMATIC: Thanks for the lesson on f-heads, got WARD PERFORMANCE P/S motor builder as chip makers and polishing.

LADY: When "yours" has a million in the bank and everything [ house, car, motorhome, quad, 10 motorcycles, cabin in hills of Ohio,Flordia home, "PAID FOR " retired ]  and all I need to say = buy me one of those new 1200cc paddle shifter HONDA'S call me a LADIES MAN. She bought me a NEW V-ROD and I gave it to my California son, sat to high in the air for me after racing bikes slammed on the ground for 20 years. This 65 year old lady knows more about 1320' racing on the weekends then most the folks we built bikes for at SMOCKS PERFORMANCE !!!  Never make a dial in change until she gives the weather report [ up or down, stay and look back ]. LOVE DAT LADY.

That friday at ATL you should be able to test. On saturday, just sign up for the bracket race and test during that time. Be sure to take "Jaye Bryd" Ryhnne out  in the first round-lol. As long as the bike doesn't exceed 120mph or run quicker than a 9.99 in the 1/4 mile, no NHRA license is required. You'll get one warning.

If he runs 9.99, Mike Rieck will get the sack for making it to fast. :D :D :D
Although we are hoping to run high 11s, there's no guarantee that it will do this time as all the data I have (power to weight ratios in relation to ETs) for these 836s is for bikes with the manual clutch.
Before deciding on what the motors specification would be, I looked at the data I had to hand for manual clutch bikes and then asked Mike to build it.
I was told how much I could expect to loose from the crank to the rear wheel with the auto by Jon Weeks and much to my supprise it's about the same as the K.
The auto motor was built to the same spec as a motor that Mike had built for another customer that ran just under 12. Knowing that the auto is now lighter than the customers bike, In theory it should run that little bit quicker but the thing is it's not manual.
This is the only thing that we don't know, how will the auto compare with a similar spec K.

There never has been a Hondamatic in the 9's in the quarter mile. If you go over 120 mph in the quarter mile, you need full leathers, not a Nhra license! A drivers license will be all that each driver needs. Full leathers are just are good safety gear to have, especially going over 100. (I was an IHRA tech inspector for two years)
Sam never asked me how much motor to get into the 11's. I put on the dial-in board that I sent down to Atlanta what I thought it would run. The horsepower loss isn't the only reason for running slower. Cutting off 3 gears really slows down the bike. (5 speed clutch vs 2 speed 'matic) You can't launch strong from the starting line if you still have to be in the same gear to half track! High 1.8 second 60' times aren't strong even on street tires. There are clutch street bikes running quicker than 1.5 seconds to 60' on street legal rubber out there.
Let's get the bike down the track a few times. Let's see what it does run. If someone has the Quarter Jr. software program, it will give you a pretty good approximation of what Sam can run. I'm not an 11 second man  :-[
If someone reading this novel on the forum and knows of someone who would like to help develop a replacement transmission for the Hondamatics, I'd be very, very happy to help out any way I can. There's a market for it beyond racing.
Can we hear the bike, see the video clip this weekend?  I've got snow in the forecast for tomorrow and need some springtime thoughts... :D :D

Yup, low 12's depending on the weather. Should be boringly quick. If you're test and tuning at an NHRA track, one of their tech inspection requirements is for a Snell 3000 or newer helmet. Dot helmets won't pass. You'll also need leather boots covering the ankle bone. They won't like exposed laces, but sometimes duct tape over the laces may let them through. Gloves with knuckle padding and wrist coverage will have you flying through tech. It's been a long time since mid-October when I made my last pass. Spring fever is coming. There's no cure but a winning time slip  :D

Jon, I stand corrected on the 120mph deal- leathers yes, license no. They got me at Atlanta Dragway a few years back on my 750F for going over 120mph and slapped me on my wrist because i didn't have my leather pants on at the time. Was rushing to make the first time trial and made a pass with my jeans- yeah, i know, not a smart thing to do under any circumstances. The bike never went 120mph in the 1/4 before that day. I would usually run 118-119mph consistently as the bike is mainly geared for 1/8th mile racing.

But..... as i stated before, the rules do say if you go quicker than 9.99 in the 1/4 mile, an NHRA competition license is required Same requirement for IHRA competitors running 9.99/6.40 or quicker per my 2011 IHRA rule book. See below from the ATL website:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do I need to have a license to drive in an NHRA sanctioned event?
All drivers competing in NHRA Professional categories, Top Alcohol categories, Comp, Advanced E.T., Super Comp, Super Gas, certain Super Stock classes as defined by current NHRA rules, Super Street, Top Comp, Top Sportsman, Super Eliminator, Sport Compact, Snowmobile, ATV, Nostalgia TF, Special Fuel, and E.T. cars or motorcycles with a dial-in of 9.99 or quicker (4.50 to 6.39 for eighth-mile) are required to have a valid NHRA competition license and NHRA membership. Click here to download the license and competition number form.

No problems with leathers boots and gloves, helmet is not marked Snell but is ACU approved and the AMA tech guy said it was to a higher standard than Snell. It dose have AMA sticker as well as ACU racing sticker and conforms to all EU standards.
I promise I will not run 9.99 or quicker or exceed 120mph. ;D ;D ;D
