Back in 71, I was over the Moon when I broke a British Land Speed Record and I had the same feeling a few yeas later when I set 3 more.
Around the same time I managed to get to the final in a major drag bike event which left me disappointed in not winning but well pleased with myself for getting so far.
In 2004 I became a Sprint Champion for the first time.  I was happy but a bit sad in that the opposition was none existent. ::)
This weekend made all these triumphs totally insignificant. To say I was elated would be a very very big understatement.
It Wasn't the wins that both Billy and myself had, it wasn't the running a 12.403 on a 12.40 dial or the .004 reaction time.
There were numerous personal bests for us both in ETs and increments along the way, It wasn't them either.
What made this one of the proudest moments of my life was YOU lot, you all know who you are and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart, you guys REALLY do ROOOOOCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Sam. :'(  yes, I did shed a happy tear or two when no one was looking. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Memorable quote from Sam Green at the event after his second win (read this with a British accent)

"Lad, these fookin wins are getting quite bludy boring"  ;D ;D ;D ;D

LMAO when he said that with a huge smile on his face. Party on Sammie! YOU rock you old bastard you!  ;) And thanks for being there. I was VERY glad that someone was older than me and had less hair  :)

Thank's all. It'll take me a long time to come down from this one. ;D ;D ;D

I got a further push up the elation ladder on Monday morning just before we departed.
I was making my way to the front of the hotel for a smoke and passed by a table in the breakfast area.
Sat talking at the table were UK top fuel and Nitro Harley runner Chris Hannam, Dave Schnitz (Schnitz Racing) and Jay Reagan (MRE).
As I walked by, Dave looked across at me and I raised my hand to gesture good morning, not wanting to disturb their conversation.
Dave did reply "good morning Sam" but before I was out of ear shot, I heard Chris say to them both, "hey, didn't Sammy do well"
It chuffed me up no end to hear that coming from a younger guy who has done it all at the top level. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Another conversation in the pits that chuffed me up was when a fellow competitor asked had I got through the second round but I'll let Billy tell that one. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Great comments Sam. I know it felt good to win but you actually put it all in prospective for us by giving it more meaning from your historical racing point of view. We were all elated to say the least.

Sometimes it's the reactions that are the priceless part - Note Bill B. and Jim F. on the right on this bad video of Sam's first win...

We did try to get everybody into at least one photo:
http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee420/1hondamatic/night.jpg[/img]]

Frank may have been scarce, but I got his game face on:
http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee420/1hondamatic/100_0113.jpg[/img]]

I got involved in a conversation in the business center of the hotel that everyone may like. I was printing out my boarding passes for my trip home. An older gentleman came over and asked how I had managed that. He said that he'd been trying for an hour to print out his group's boarding passes for their trip back to Colorado. I helped him out with his computer challenges. He asked me if I was there for the race or was I there on other business. I was there with the group that was racing the oldest bikes in competition. What was that? 1976 Honda Hondamatic. He said, you've got to come over to meet my son. I got introduced to the group. Only when Sam Willis introduced himself to me did I slowly wake up. You used to be a top fuel champion, didn't you?
The older gentleman's son then tapped me on the shoulder to say, and I'm the current Top Fuel Champion. Up until then, the name Korry Hogan hadn't rung a bell with me. He wasn't competing there. We got talking about what Sam had been running at the event. Korry said" oh yea, you're with the guys with the old Hondas out back." Even the top fuel guys knew where the "old Hondas" were at an event of 800+ entries. ;)

An idea for you and Sam. Since Sam is buddies with the other British/European riders you guys should ask to share shipping containers! Not like Top Fuel guys need to worry too much about getting smoked by SamAuto  ;D

Sam is threatening to make this his last trip over the water.  I'm not sure the group over here will take this lying down. Just take a good look at all the people one man has brought together in such a short time. Hard to think he would want to give up the commraderie.

And lets not forget the core for the undercut tranny- you might be able to send it by my brother. He's coming this way for Thanksgiving.

We've got to be ready for next season. Z bars, extended arm and air shifter. Sounds like the tranny in the turbo bike needs attention too.

Trying to build the bike program up at ZMAX. Give that some thought as well as Commerce.

now thats a proper burn out
and Sam looks a little envious

By the way I did get to ride Bills turbo bike and it really is an arm stretcher............
I came back in to the pits mumbling something about extended swing arms,
Just for the street, my bike is gong to be a hand full even at 5 Lbs of boost
its going to be tuned for 10 to 12.............Like I said ..........extended swing arm.....

Nice one bill
