Yeh, I am gonna make this one! Flying to Tampa, then a rental car. They told me there were no rooms available at the Sleep Inn. Had to book about a block away at the Hampton. Yikes - the price! Looking forward to it!

Jerry, if Frank doesn't take that extra room, I can cancel the Hampton and have more drinking money. Let me know.

This is great. Spoke to Kenny yesterday and told him to get his a$$ in gear. Sounds like the hotels will be tight.

Keith, when did you call? I booked this afternoon online with the friends and family deal. First come first serve. I was surprised it happened as it did.

I have moved! Thank you for the heads up Jerry.

I actually had not personally called until this morning. I had one of my "Assistants" in the front office make my reservations and she obviously gave me bad info. I just called and Sleep Inn apparently has plenty of rooms. Got one. Seems if you want it done right, you gotta do it yourself!

It would be great if we were all in one place. Why i say that i haven't a clue- you fellas might get me in trouble with my wife. Lol.

Ya think? Kinda was thinking the same thing but turns out my wife is staying home cause our youngest daughter is expecting our 12th Grandchild that weekend. I don't get it. She thinks the new Grand Baby is more important than Motorcycle DRAG RACING??? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Apparently not but don't tell Kenny. He still needs to get his a$$ in gear. I will call him and give him a push.

I have a spare room reservation available at the Sleep Inn if anyone needs it. I can hold on to it for a while.

Hey Jerry, Whats the rate on that room?? Double? Single? Smoking or non?? I might need it myself.

Frank,

Sorry I haven't gotten back til now, been outta town working and communication lacks somewhat. I can still call and drop one night from that reservation for you but... just got off the phone with Wilbur and he's at the online reservation site and says he can still book a room. Might be easier for you to do that in the mean time and I can sit on this one 4 night reservation in case someone else needs one when there are no more room available perhaps. What do you think?

Jerry

If anyone else is looking in that is the Sleep Inns and Suites Riverfront.

All good Jerry, i'll call them tonight to see whats available. I appreciate the consideration. I'd like to be there early myself but i've got to take care of the grandchild's needs first. She's in 2nd grade this year and i really don't want to take her out of school to come racing with me.  We'll be there to hang out with you fellas nevertheless.

Fun night. Been wondering what you 2 have been up to!

You guys running 2 bikes? Which other one?

So a 048 is better than a 015?? Now I know you been talkin about an 11. And if .048 is better than .015 then 11 ain't happening. On the other hand if Sam had saved that .015 for the 12.31 then my math spelled out 11.98. Pour some of that high octane Apple Pie in the tank then you'll get it!  ;D

It wasn't so much a fun night Jerry but it was enjoyable. We went to do a job and we did it, it was the way we did it that was fun.  ;D ;D ;D ;D Our reaction times were some of the best on the night by a long way, my .015 only just shy of Billy's .013. Jerry, the reaction time has nothing to do with making the elapsed time any quicker so an 11 was never on the cards, it just means you have more chance of winning if you pull a good one and your opponent pulls a poor one. ;)
We both rode the Auto, Billy made 3 shake down runs of 12.79, 12.60 and 12.56 then handed the bike over to me.
The bike always runs quicker on it's second and third runs but Bills 3 runs were pretty much in quick succession of one another and when he handed it over to me it was stinking hot.
The air temps were falling and I wanted to get a run in before dark so that I could see where I was going. (not a lover of racing at night). This was when I cut the .015 light and was on course for a good pass but the motor spluttered on the top end which lost me some time. (not sure what caused it)
I let the motor cool right down to more like what I've been used to seeing and pushed the bike up the staging lanes and didn't fire it up until I was next to run. By this time the air had cooled right down and moisture was forming on my visor, I knew that a quick one was on the cards.
The bike pulled a 2.11 60 foot time, some two 10ths quicker than my first 60 and it then picked up time at every increment down the track resulting in a personal best of 12.315 with a terminal speed of 112.59 mph.
So I guess you could say as well as being enjoyable, it was fun. ;D ;D ;D
I'm not sure what I was thinking earlier in the day when I PMed our dial in guru Jon Weeks to be on hand to help with the dial in times as it was only test and tune tonight  :-[ anyway Jon, I have all the data collated and will get to you tomorrow.
Looking forward to doing battle for real next week. 8) 8) 8)

Sam,
Include the time of the run(s) with the data you send. Back to back runs aren't what you will be racing, so the information is of limited value for special occasions. Based on the last time I hung around the bike, I would have guessed at around a low 12.60 to start and mid 12.30's when warmed up.  It's still near my memories. Anybody looking for an 11 needs a really strong left hand to hold the bike on the line at a higher launch rpm than achieved currently. I'm thinking about a low 1.9 second 60' to get there. The old 836 setup in Sam's bike also ran a best in the 12.30's. The benefit of the 915 setup hasn't yet been fully exploited.
I've stayed on station last night, waiting for the call to dial the bike for a time trial. If Sam/Bill recorded the density altitude for each run, they are eliminating the need for me. It's not magic as the water content in the air will still vary the run's ET even with the same DA as run in the past. We're playing with 1-2 hundredths max difference.
(See, I never mentioned brakes in the whole post!)  ;)

                                                                    Jon W.

Good report with attention to detail. But now i'm going to steal Jon Weeks thunder a bit and say we've got to take a good look at consistency now. It seems the 60' times vary greatly on every run made by either rider. Eventhough the reaction times are okay, if the 60' is not close, run after run, it will be extremely difficult for anyone to predict a dial in. Hence, unless luck is on your side, on the trailer you go. Ummm, no Jon, you did not mention brakes but you did sneak a comment in about the strong clutch hand- lol. My guess is Sam and Bill lost that sweet spot on the brake pressure and engine rpm they had last season to make the bike launch consistently.

Alright, no more keyboard critiques for me. I'm going back in the shop to work. Lots to do on the SOHC, and not much time to get it done.
