Had a real good time with Sam and Bill at the track on Fri.  Two nice a' folk as you'd ever want to meet. Glad to hear the bike's coming around. FranknJohn is right, the machine is one fine effort in person, pics do not do it justice. That powerplant is STRONG! lots more potential there once sorted.

We know where most of the challenges are. Don't write off the CV carbs yet. Sam's honorary crew chief is coming south Friday. It's going to be running quicker next weekend. That's a promise! I've run this type of combination for the last 25 years. That's why I sign this -

Hey Sam,

I heard from Keith today and he told me you guys may have found the problem with the carbs. Does it respond better now??? Whats the plan for further testing??
Hi Frank, we only realised what the problem was while talking on the phone to Jon Weeks on our way back from Union County Dragway.
It seems Billy had cleaned out what looked like blockages in some of the jets, turns out they were blocked for a reason. ::) :D
We are going to correct the mistake (even I would have made it)  and see what happens. ;)

Hey felllas,

Follow the link below to view pictures taken by the track photographer from saturdays outing at Union County Dragway. Some good shots of SAMAUTO and pilot making there way down the 660.

You might have to copy and paste it in your browser if the link doesn't work. Its worth the extra effort.

Do you think you will have time to relocate/lower the foot pegs for Sam before the Rockingham event?? Once that bike starts to really launch hard, it will not be as easy to get his feet up to the legs. In dragracing you basically want your legs to swing back naturally to the pegs like a pendulum so it doesn't cause the bike to upset itself from the weight transfer. Each one of your launchs i observed was a bit awkward due to the effort you made trying to get to the foot pegs. Sam is not a tall as you are so they really need to be moved forward and lower. My suggestion is to put them where he can already have his feet on the pegs when he's ready to launch the bike. Proper location will allow him to push in to the prestage flat footed, then he can move his feel onto the pegs to make the final push into the staged beams using his toes. If you look at the pictures of my F model, you will notice it still has 2 sets of pegs. A closer inspection will reveal that the rear pegs are lower than the stock front pegs. I leave with my feet on those pegs so i can control the launch better. The only reason the stock pegs are still there is to allow me to ride/footshift the bike in the pit and to get to the stock rear brake pedal.

In 99.999% of the rounds, he will be the slower bike and will leave first so the less stress you put on the rider, the more he can concentrate on cutting a good light and start down the ever important "straight line" from one end of the track to the next. Even a slight bobble on the leave will affect his overall 60' and ET.  Trust me, from experience, i can tell you that good reaction time is extremely important if you've got the slower bike when racing the 1/4 mile. Its gives you the upper hand in "pushing out" the faster opponent as they cannot always determine the closing rate of the slower bike at the stripe and will typically "breakout" trying to run the slow bike down and still cross the line first. I've chased and i've been the rabbit. Sometimes i prefer being the rabbit-lol.

Sorry for the long post above. I should have just said, please consider relocating the pegs because we are dragracing and not roadracing :-\.

I took over some rear sets and discussed moving the pegs forward but my customers had other plans
and just not enough time to get the bike to my shop for these modifications but in the next few weeks
this will happen.
I think Sam and I talked about just putting the stock pegs back on for now
and Bill agreed this would be the easiest to do.

I do like Franks set up as he uses 2 sets of pegs
one for racing and the other for coming back in to the pits

something to consider

Yes, putting the stock pegs back on would surely help. As i said, the legs will become a pendulum once the bike makes any forward movement. They will find the pegs themselves if they are in a location lower than whats on the bike currently. I raced my 78' K model some years ago with the stock pegs and had no difficulty getting my feet planted positively. I need to dig that dinosaur out of the shed and start it up so i can play with it some in street ET bracket classes. Its slow but i'm ok with that. I think my best pass at the time may have been an 8.11 in the 1/8th. Stock carbs with air box, unjetted carbs with a sidewinder but geared and lowered. Knowing what i know now i think i can even get that stock motor into the high 7  second range. Hmmm, i feel another project coming on. I can see it now, mono shock suspension, light weight wheels, air shifter etc......uh oh, its just another dream-lol. Got to many projects in the works right now to make that one a reality.
