I know the bike will be ready to drop some serious ET. Uumm, can i borrow that nice set of carbs for my F model???

I set the motor on the wifes bike tonight. Oil pan, carbs and pipe are left to put on- too tired to go back in the shop now to finish it up. Hope to fire up thursday night. Will be testing/racing with you guys on saturday @ Union if it doesn't leak and idles.

Sam and all, went solo(Big Jim's cutomers kidnapped him @ last minute)forgot how much FUN(work) that can be.Thankfully Frank(Dragracer and crew were there)His wife cut @ .000 tree. They threw us a curve ball, last time we had test and tune from 1-3:00.So we get there @(me and Samauto)no testing, qualifying @ 3:00! >:( :( ???.So go to practice starts, blows fuse @ end of run! >:( Long story short, brake wire came off terminal on f/brake was touching fork tube, all OK til I hit a brake.Fixed just in time to go qualify. So first run,a lot like before, way too fat,had 25 pilots, what the 29's came with for modified CB 750's,wished I had the 17.5's they usually came with. And time to play with mains and needles.Came with 120's normally 115's.Problem below 3000 rpm, after that hold on!Runs and idles better, but WANT some proper running CV's!The best thing was the 2 runs, reaction time was within .002. 60ft's in high 2's.The second run was against Cedric with Frank's crew.Kaw 900 vs. CB750A,reaction time Bill .084,Cedric .083
Declined to run improper running bike, long drive, but ok,that's racing! ;) Dyno time scheduled this Sat. We will be in the high 11's,real low 12's and in the high 7's real low 8's by Valdosta. That motor's got it,we just got to put in proper A/F! ;D,Thanks to all for your support and comments,it's OK,post away! ;) :D :D,Bill  Team Sam Green

Hey Bill, you're saying the 120 mains in the 29's were too fat with that 836?

I'm trying to determine what size to start with on my 570 with the same 29's.  Less than that, huh.   ;D

Keep in mind this bike is an auto with a converter. The launch rpm's cannot match those of  a hand clutch  so he was fighting a bogging issue with the larger jets. It seemed too rich off the line at the WOT position which caused the plugs to be drowned with fuel making it sputter. As it went further down the track it cleared up. Roll ons in the pit area were a different story. The bike pulled hard at WOT. Smaller jets may help to launch the bike but could cause starvation issues down track. On the other hand, smaller is sometimes better overall. I now personally understand the concept of the CV's a bit more now that there was something to compare them with at the track. Lighter diaphram springs in those CV's should be considered after the carbs are sorted out. Thats not to say the smoothbores won't work. As Bill mentioned, he didn't have any jets at the track to install for more testing. Dyno time and local dragstrip testing is what he has decided to do until all the carburation nuances can be worked out.

Bill, that was the first pass on the new motor for my wife. She cut that tree down with the 0.000 light and ran her quickest time yet  with a 5.76@118mph short shifting the bike. The next pass the light was a .030 with a better 60's time but she lost the small shift button somewhere and was not able to shift the bike before it hit the rev limited hard. She recovered and the bike still ran a 5.89@118mph. She was on a much better pass that time. With no replacement button we decided not to make anymore passes on saturday. The bike didn't run as quick as i wanted but its a fresh build and i need  to tweak the cam chain tensioner and set the timing to free up some power.

Good you made that trip Bill and let me know when you intend to go to ATL to try the bike out. Don't forget that Greer, SC , near Greenville also has a track you could use for testing.

By the way, Cedric went on to win the race against the 16 year old.

Wow, did everyone get scared to post on this thread???????????

I was mad busy all day at work Frank and although I was on line, I just didn't find time to post.
After work I realised I had forgot it was my Daughter in laws birthday and had to travel to the other side of town to deliver her birthday card. I posted as soon as I got home when the panic was over.
