Wiring CB750F (75-76) Handlebar Controls to CB750K2
« on: November 22, 2009, 12:42:51 AM »
Here's the deal. The old handlebar controls were junk, so I bought these refurbs off ebay. I'm going to attempt to wire them when I return from work on the 1st. I'd like you gents to take a look at my wiring analysis.

CB750F

Left Side Control (L/R Blinker, Horn, H/L Beam Sw.)

Orange/Turn Signals (left)
Lt. Green/Horn
Lt Blue Turn Signals (right)
Lt. blue w/stripe/front turn signal (left)
Brwn w/blue stripe/signal buzzer
dk blue/high beam head lt.
orange w/stripe/front turn signal (right)
white/low beam head lt.
Gray/grd. for signal relay
brwn w/red stripe/instrument illumination

Right Side (Start-Kill Switches)

Blkx2/Positive(eng. stop switch and starter)
Yellow w/red stripe/starter ground
blk w/white stripe/coil side switched
blk w/red/headlight dimmer switched

On the CB750K2 diagram, it appears as if all color line up with one another except for the black w/red trace from the CB750F...where does this go?  Also, the CB750K2 has the H/L/Off switch for the headlight wheras the CB750F just has H/L? How should I approach this?

Thanks for any input,
Seth

Where there K2 switches on the old bars? I myself replace the switches from K3-F&K8 with the earlier switches, Personal preference, Less wires,
And you have the ability to turn off the headlight, The blue wire and the blue/white strip wire are suppose to go to the same light, same with the orange, orange /white stripe wires. The white striped wires are for the running lights, Are those pic's of your bike?? To me that just sweet! I hope you post more pic's of the build! What are the spec's of the new motor???         Head

Free bump up to the top if you tell me what paint you are using on the alt and tran cover. ;D

Beautiful engine.

Understood the blue/orange white stripe setup for the running lights. What has me baffled is the black w/red stripe from the headlight dimmer switch, I don't know where this ties in. I wish I could retain the off position with the new controls, but the old K2 controls were beyond junk.  Any help with this black w/red stripe wire would be great! ;D

The engine build sheet from Mike is at home, while I'm stuck in NYC. It reads like a Christmas list though  ;) If anyone is geographically close to this man, it's worth it to reach out, as he's one standup dude.

The case paint is PJ1 Coatings Satin Black Case Paint.

Thanks for the compliments. I've got a build thread going somewhere, maybe I'll update it.  Alot of the stuff I've done has been the boring stuff (bearings, neck bearings, frame paint (don't like how that turned out), and sending various parts to various places). Nevermind, guess I will update the thread  :D

What year of F do you have, I myself just picked up a 1975 750F, the black/red stripe wire from dimmer on mine has a plug in the main wire harness, I don't know if the three years of F have the same wire setup, mine has the box on the other side of the bike from the horn, that the wires join up in.
What are you going to do with the old switches,I am looking for the little copper/brass plate that the starter button makes contact with in the switch housing. This is the first F that I'm working on, But forty years working on Honda's I work mostly on 70--72 750's,cb900f's,cb1100f's and 75--78 Goldwings.   PS  I have two wires, it's brown with a red stripe and a yellow band on it male end, and a brown wire with a blue stripe female end with a cover that is half yellow. My three manuals lump the 75f to 77f for the same wire diagram and it's not the set up I have.

I believe the black/red stripe wire from the dimmer goes to the headlight fuse and from there it goes to the starter switch.
