Who uses flange type bushings on their pre-77K's?
« on: November 23, 2009, 03:44:31 PM »
I'm confused. I've heard it straight from the horse's mouth (Hondaman) that we're not supposed to use the flange type bushings on pre-77 CB750's. I'd like to know if any of you do use them, and if so, where did you get your collar to go inside? Did you use the stock collar for pre-77's? Hondaman has told me that the 77-78's had a slightly longer collar which allowed it to pivot.

The reason I ask is that I'm having a hard time sourcing the non-flange type and many places are saying I can use the flange type no problem...i.e.:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bronze-Swingarm-Bushings-Honda-CB500-CB550-CB750-SOHC_W0QQitemZ270489947462QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3efa750d46#ht_2563wt_939

I know ebay is ebay, but several places say that I can use flange type, including Mark over at M3 racing.

Thanks all

The non flange type bushings are showing as being available from CMSNL.
Honda Part # 52108 300 300
http://www.cmsnl.com/products/bush-forkpivot_52108300300/
They may be available from a Honda dealer locally.
Price is around $20:00 US which isn't too bad.
From what I can see, it looks like they went to the flange type at the K6 model.
Sorry I don't know about interchangeability with the flange type bushings.
Hope this helps a bit anyway.

You can use flange type swingarm bearings on any bike CB750 made... if the inner collar is long enough to take the side load. Who said you cannot use these?

Hondaman told me that in order to use them, you have to have a collar that sticks out a very small amount past the bushings or else the collar will not be the pivot point. I actually got some bronze bushings with the flange (they were in a kind of bad shape), but my existing collar came flush with the bushing which concerned me.

I'm pretty sure those are steel. I can get those but based on what I'm reading, bronze is much higher recommended.
