Need Input & Opinions On This 77' CB750F
« on: November 23, 2009, 09:10:51 PM »

Seems that this 77' CB750F is being offered for $2,750.00 and it's only about 2 & 1/2 hours away. Here's what is said about it:

" 1977 Honda CB750 Super Sport, Very Good Condition, Tires – Recently replaced – they have about 1700 miles on them
New CAM, Valve Springs, Titanium Valve spring retainers, New Rings, Replaced cam chain guide and rollers
Replaced the original dual points with a DYNA S electronic ignition system, Replaced the voltage regulator with a electronic voltage regulator
The front fork seals sweat and need to be wiped with a cloth after ridding, The Muffler is scratched – do not know if the muffler is original
Paint on the gas tank is good except in one spot"

Your opinions will be considered. Not sure if I want to go for this, but it does look good to me. ;)

Forgot to say that it has about 23,000 miles on it and has a clear title.

That looks like a fairly tidy unit and the price looks good too.
I know that here in Australia some guys are asking around the 2>3 thousand dollar mark for a bucket of bolts.

If I was you

Exhaust aint original, were the valve guides changed and was the cam a proper F2 one. If no to 2 & 3 run away
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Well, that's what I was thinking. It LOOKS pretty good AND Sounds good, according to what the seller says about it. One thing about it, IF I decide to go and check it out, I'll be able to make a decision based on what I actually see, BEFORE committing (unlike on ebay). Always kinda liked the 750Fs too. kind of have another possibility in the works, but it's got 4 wheels, a small SOHC4 engine and a Turbo! ::) I know, it was okay til I mentioned the extra 2 wheels, huh? ::) The 750F would be alot easier to retrieve (only about 2 1/2 hours away and the other item is about 19hrs & 45 minutes away!  :-\ Decisions! I know that there is a lot of experience with the 750fs on this place and I was looking to hear that. ;)

Now we're getting into the technicals and that was what I was after. Yeah, I knew the exhaust wasn't original, but have no clue to the answers about the cam and guides. I'll have to post those questions to the seller and see what he has to say about that.

                                               Thanks Bryan,  Bill ;)

As Mick said, it IS nice looking, buit I don't need no surprises down the road. :-\

They were the last of the 750 SOHC so should have been the best with everything orted---didnt work that way tho'!! Would handle better with the lower UK style handlebars!!!

I prefer a lower style bar myself, as well. 8) If I DO go down and check it out, I'll take the trailer just in case. But, I know how to come back with an EMPTY trailer, if need be. :D ;) I haven't contacted the seller yet AND it could be bought before I can check on it. Of course THAT could turn out to be a GOOD thing, who knows. ???  I also know where there is another GPZ, but it's a 95' and I prefer the 83' that I have (less bodywork too). ;)

I checked with the local U-haul in my town and was surprised to find that they charge only 15 bucks for a motorcycle trailer rental for one day.  That was a cheap way for me to go look at a bike.  The trailer did just what it was supposed to do - brought home a motorcycle.

By the way Bill I sent you a PM regarding your CBX.

exactly what i used to do when needing to haul a bike. that trailer is a bit heavier than i like to pull with my high mile saturn though so i'm building a trailer right now, about 1/4 the weight. the stock 85 horsepower need all the help it can get  ;D
