Yamaha XS360 problem?
« on: November 23, 2009, 05:23:51 AM »
I have a '76 Yamaha XS360. The motor spins, backfires and shoots gas out of both carbs. Will not start. Any ideas? I have run out of them.

Thanx for ANY help!

What is the story on the bike.  Was it recently running, rebuilt, or a new acquisition?  Valve clearances out of whack and or cam chain off by a tooth or more.

I bought the bike a few weeks ago. Owner sez that he had not ridden it in a while. Started it but seem to run on one cylinder. Was riding down the street and the other cylinder seemed to kick in. Stopped at STOP sign, bike died and would not start. I have set points and timing(I think). Also, have adjusted valves(I think).I have checked compression. Needle bangs up to 110-120 and slowly sinks down. Both carbs have suction. ???

If the points are worn the springs can short out on the point cover try removing that and seing if it fires
