Well with the Honda;
 you can tour endlessly

not have to listen to mosquito control jokes

 get decent gas mileage

 have unlimited access to accessories..

still put on huge amounts of miles 35 years later..

And not blow your motor.  I've owned an RD350 and two RD400's.  Loved them, except they all seized at fairly high speeds.

Problem with 2 strokes is you can't keep it at one speed for too long or they blow. They need a variance in RPM. I own a RD350 and a RD400.  I almost was murdered by traffic on the Bay Bridge when my piston blew. I had to push that bike a mile with no emergency lane. I still love her.

The K0 had a very similar 1/4 mile time, didn't foul plugs constantly, and was better at long trips, too :)

No that is missing aluminum - eaten away by detonation. You can also see wher the piston got very hot and stuck itself to the cylinder wall from heat and expansion - all due to the detonation.

It's only a 40 year old advert guys, no need to take offence, the Kawasaki triples were great bikes, as were the Yamaha RD's etc, but my favourite was the Suzuki GT750K, just like a CB750 to ride, weighed about the same (due to the radiator and water cooling system) but had better brakes, (twin discs) and just like a CB750, you could tour on it all day. I wish I had one in my garage now.......  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

They were not great bikes..
 they were Cheap & fast..

If they were cheap and not fast they woulda gone the way of the 500 dohc yamaha....

I am not knocking it, just saying the Yam does not have a strong following...like the Mach III..

The Japanese have often built better, no vastly superior machines, that fail to appeal to large masses.. as intended..

I distinctly remember hearing about the soon to come out 3 cyl BMW type rig, the Yamaha 3...

And how many decades of superior V Twin cruiser did it take to make a big dent in the twin cruisers category... ???

In September 1971 I was going to buy one of those after work one day. A good friend had called earlier that and left my mother a message that a local Honda dealer had found one more red CB750 in the warehouse. That's it in my avatar. Glad I bought the Honda!!!!!!!

754, I bought it from Frankie Juhan at Northwest Honda I think it was called then, located at the north end of the Cambie St. bridge. Bought my '69 there too, which I crashed a block away from there. :'(

Somewhere around '74 -'75 they let me test ride a 500 in front of the dealership on a busy 4 lane. Dumped the clutch in traffic and did my first (un-planned) street wheelie. Scared the piss out of me!!  Oh, the memories!!
Here is a pic from one of my best friends H2's, from the "world wide forum". I did frame work on it so it would handle 160 at Daytona, and built the pipes. It is super fast! He has 2 or 3 of each(H1 & H2)! They are as dedicated as we are about our classic machines. The collectors are willing to pay even more for a pristine bike.

Yeh, that's a good old ad.
If you've never ridden a Mach III you haven't lived - man they are scary, evil, noisy, dirty, smokey, wobbly - but fark they are a heap of fun.
I'll never forget a mate loaning me his back in the 70s "here, take it for a spin, no probs". Thirty minutes later I returned shaky, sweaty, wobbly, with a grin from ear to ear and said "how good was that, but I don't need to do it again". The 750 Mach IVs weren't much different, but a bit better handling. And they both are very collectable and I'd love to have either in my garage (along with about 20 other 70's classics of course!).
And Terry, the GT750s were laughed at in the 70s, but we all now realize they were a damn good bike, and also very desirable these days.
Oh bugga, now I'm dreamin again.......... :-[

My best mate had an H2 while I had the much more sedate Suzi T350 when we were teenagers, his was hard to ride, had a seat like a block of concrete, no handling, no brakes to speak of, pulled wheelstands in all gears and hit the power band whenever it felt like it.
I have never been so scared in all my life as the days Jim would pillion me on that rail, fast...jez you better believe it.
It dumped just about all of our riding mates at one time or another, once the throttle jammed and it cleaned up 4 of the bikes we were riding with.
He cracked a rotor and was waiting a month for a replacement and that was in the 70's so there should have been a few around?
Would I give one garage space Hell no!
Now a nice old 750 waterbus Suzi.....heck yeah. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Funny add!
I was riding an H1 500 (back in the day) when the CB750 were still young.
After a couple of races, no one in town would challenge me.
Thought I was fast until a guy with a 750 Kawi showed up  :o

A friend of my brother had a 500 Kawi that used to outrun a local CB750 on a regular basis, over the winter the 750 owner secretly put in a big bore kit and cam. The guy on the 500 Kawi got wind of it and slipped a 750 kawi engine into his 500 frame and in the spring still outran the honda. Honda bragging rights were not recovered and the Honda guy was PO'd!

I will explain my comment..
I rode with a buddy that had a 70 500 since new, and a 72 750 since 73 or so, still has both..

At that time I tode a chopped 350 twin, in a roll on at low rpm, I could pull away from the 500!.. but not for long.

Although he loved that bike, and put 40 K on it, and it is still minty, he had no trouble explaining its shortcomings..

I fact he would say, look at this, then holding the bars would push hard on the peg & frame and show how the swingarm would bend.. :o He would also talk about how bad the handling and brakes were. And that fact that it was cheaply made..

He still has that 500 and a 69 that is over 1/2 NOS parts.. I dont think he is ever online though, no computer..
